Several things have come to me
via this post at Maverick Philosopher:
- There is no limit to how otherwise-intelligent someone can be and still revert to dualism.
- (Corollary) Even people who are intellectually rigorous and honest are liable to caricature their opponents' positions.
- Philosophers and others care too damn much about when things are and are not 'identical'.
- Nearly every argument against materialism eventually involves a claim of the form "Materialism is false because X is just obvious!".
I feel like I die a little inside every time I read a philosopher whose name isn't Daniel Dennett.
