HI LJ. REMEMBER ME?
Today was my last day of work, really, honestly last, until I move to Orono and get a new job. (which I will probably like much less than the ones I just gave up.) Which should = vacation, right? HA. Instead, I am avoiding packing for the move by catching up on a summer's week's worth of memes.
First, from
seedyapartment, the
musicshuffle meme (which she made up almost all by herself! applause!):
Put your player on shuffle and write about the first 10 songs. (I'll have you know that I switched out of my poorly-titled Sometimes I Just Want To Listen To My Music playlist, and back to my Top Rated, so as to have more random songs. Just for you, flist.)
1. Rehab - Amy Winehouse: I'm actually not that wild about this song. Sure, it's... catchy or whatever. And the irony level is... pretty expected, actually. So. Congrats on the biggest beehive in showbiz, honey.
2. Island in the Sun - Weezer: Not one of my favorites by them, but mellow and so perfectly summer.
3. Loser - Beck: soy un perdedor/I'm a loser baby/so why don't you kill me The day I figured out that it was Spanish was one of the best days of my life. NO JOKE. Talk about flashes of brilliance.
4. Universe & U - KT Tunstall: I'm late to the KT train, but I'm catching on. I heard the Grey's soundtrack version first, but I like the album version (which this is) better.
5. Trucking - Grateful Dead: Speaking of being late to the train - hey! the Grateful Dead are, like, good! Man, you spend the summer in trucks with teenage stoner boys, and you become a Dead fan or you die. Sugar Magnolia is my current favorite, but who can argue with Trucking? Also, it makes me think of Freaks and Geeks, and how I really need to rewatch that show.
6. Backyard - Guster: GUSTER. in the backyard/since last summer/almost nothing left/just some pieces of the roots that once dug in It's not a happy song. But I still love it. Oh, Guster. I always feel like there should be more to this song, like they left out the last verse. Which was probably the goal.
7. My Little Corner of the World - Yo La Tengo: and if you care to stay/in my little corner of the world/we could hide away/in my little corner of the world Sweet, and simple, and it gets stuck in my head. I like how it changes to "our" in the second verse. Nice touch.
8. Runaway - Mae: I've been on a mellow, melancholy, almost sad kick lately. Just music-wise, I should clarify. And Mae is an ideal band for that. Even their happy songs are still a little melancholy. This whole album brings back very fond memories of senior year, when my friend got fed up with my music, and left this in my car for me.
9. Standing Still - Jewel: The lesson here is that I need to clean out my Top Rated. Because... I don't particularly like this song. But here it is.
10. Phase - Breaking Benjamin: These guys are a hold over from high school, when I was obsessed with the local alternative station. I'm over the station now, but I'm still a fan. With any luck, I'll get to go see them in November. The lyrics aren't really the point with these guys; they're not bad, they're mostly just... unintelligible. What with the scrawny white guy screeching and all. Oh, junior year. nobody knows it's just a phase/help me I'm out of breath again
If you want any of the songs, I'll upload.
Meme the next:
1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I'll respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment, ask them five questions.
questions, from
moirariordan:
1 - A crossover, any two shows, any pairings. What'd you like to see?
I went through this weird phase this winter where I quietly tried to convince myself that it was canonically possible for Gina Tuscano (West Wing) and Sara Sidle (CSI) to be the same person. And, really, it was kind of easy until you realize that Gina was in DC guarding Zoey in May, and Sara was in Las Vegas solving crimes in September. ... otherwise, it worked perfectly, sort of? And I wanted her to make out with Sam. So, there you go. Sam/Gina!Sara. (oh, Jorja, you so hot.)
Or, you know, any crossover that gives Casey superpowers, because I'm sure she would drive everyone around her nuts with all the ethical issues. And there would be hot boys to make Derek jealous.
2 - Favorite guilty indulgence?
Disney Channel? Julia Quinn books? Zac Efron? Nutella? ...
3 - Any artist covers any song - what do you wanna hear?
I want Guster to cover anything and everything. And I want anyone to cover Gomez's girlshapedlovedrug, because I lovelovelove that song. So, Guster covering girlshapedlovedrug.
4 - Favorite class you ever took?
AP Bio in high school, but that had less to do with the subject, and more to do with my fantastic teacher and awesome classmates. In college, Literature of Baseball, which lead me to both Roger Angell and David Halberstam. My professor might have been a bit of a jackass, and my classmates were usually asleep, but it gave me an excuse to talk Red Sox all the time. It helped that I was in the class when they won in 2004... I also wrote what is probably my favorite paper ever for that - I wrote about Damon Runyon (they based Guys and Dolls off his writings), and my paper was not only longer than the two articles it was about, it also used his distinctive parantheticals. (Which really was the entire point of writing about him.) "Terwilliger bunts one" also originated in that class, so good things all around.
5 - Favorite city?
Boston? Here's where the truth comes out - I haven't traveled very much. Rome was lovely, Dublin was crowded. New York is too big for me, and I haven't seen enough of Baltimore or Miami. And that pretty much wraps up my experience with places that are actually cities. So, Boston. It has the Red Sox, it has Garment District, it has plenty of people who will let me sleep on their floor, and I can get there by train.
I am completely obsessed with
goodreads. No, seriously. I added about 100 books one day last week. And I added a solid 50 today. But! It's books! And other people talking about books! And cataloging! And judging! Which is basically all of my favorite things in one place. So friend me. And let me judge you by what you read.
Also, in other OCDish cataloging news: I finally did something with my
del.icio.us account! It's almost entirely fic, and that's likely how it will stay. Fic! tags! fic! etc!
I really don't want to pack. I think someone should come here and do it for me.
(ooooooh, GIP. check out the pretty icon
moirariordan made for me!)
