A few gems from my priest at home, one of the many reasons I still call myself a Catholic:
"My Da had given up alcohol for Lent. So they drank O'Doul's beer, which the locals think killed him as he died the next day."
"Let us make of our lives bread broken for the life of the world."
"It is clear that immigration policy needs reformation. In that reform there must be a concern not only for national interests, but for human rights. I was happy to see a bishop from the Washington Archdiocese on the platform speaking to the dignity of all God's children. 'The Lord protects the stranger.' So must the Church."
"I was surprised by a tall eighth grader who began, "Forgive me, Father, I am a Protestant." I quickly assured him, "That is no sin," and offered him a blessing." - my priest at home, summing up one of many reasons I still call myself a Catholic
