My life lately

Nov 10, 2005 15:07

- Classes are...okay? I like them but I keep getting discouraged and un-motivated, but I'm not too worried, I guess. Just kind of blah right now.

- my iPod is kind of dead. I'm not really sure what to do about it, but I miss all my music. I had it organized just the way I want it and while I've been able to download some of it from the network, I can't get all of it. Maybe I'll try to get it repaired at some point.

- For no particular reason, I was being pretty antisocial for a while. I think I'm snapping out of that, for example,

- I had some random conversations with people from both sides of my floor about SGA-related stuff last night, and life/school in general. I really like the people in Younker, and I'm sorry I don't hang out with them more often.

- I did something for SGA every night this week: the SCIPE (students campaigning for increased political engagement) open forum on the student intiatives we voted on this week (Monday), tabling for those initiatives outside of Cowles with people I like but don't ever really get to talk to (Tuesday), Joint Board (Tuesday), and election board (last night) to verify the results of those initiatives. I really like the idea of initiatives because anyone can write one (for example, we had ones on the implementation of a jukebox in the new dining hall) and everyone gets to vote on them. The anti-Coke one did not pass, however, which was really sad. But hope isn't lost. I'm still feeling really good about SGA right now, we had a brainstorming session on Sunday to figure out what to do for the rest of the semester. And it helps that I really like all the people involved. (and last week some random kid at Grab & Go told me I'd done a good job with the anti-Coke stuff at Joint Board, which just made me feel good.) Also, Amanda is my new press secretary a la CJ Cregg.

- I got three pieces of mail this week: a postcard from Julia, Dylan's girlfiend, from Buenos Aires when she visited there from her study abroad in Chile; a thank-you note from Jenny (one of the LASG members who was pushing for the Coke boycott), and a card from my aunt that I haven't opened yet. All of which were very exciting.

- I talked to two different people about their experiences doing the Costa Rica and Ecuador programs, respectively, which was really helpful and got me excited about it. (I had lunch with the girl who went to Ecuador today and she casually mentioned that the president had been overthrown while she was there. AWESOME.) I'm pretty sure what I want to do is a combination of taking classes and doing some kind of internship, but I'm still not sure exactly where and what, but I have a better sense of what my options are (specific programs in Costa Rica, Ecuador, or Argentina).

- I just declared! I'm waiting to see all my information come up on StalkerNet (the online campus directory). For those of you who don't know, I'm majoring in political science and doing a concentration (more like an interdisciplinary minor) in Latin American studies. If you're really interested (although this is more for my benefit),

So, yup, that's my liberal arts education.

- The "Out Tonight" video from the Rent movie makes my life (http://www.theonenetwork.com/music_videos/rent/4460/out_tonight_300.html).

- I'm really looking forward to winter break. I set up an arrangement with my mom to basically be our housekeeper/nanny for the last three weeks I'm home, which would mean meeting my brother's bus at 3:00 and taking care of him till 6:00 every weekday, much better than working full-time like I thought I would have to do.

- I'm staying on campus for Thanksgiving, hopefully to cook, see the Rent movie, plan study abroad/next summer/career options, and chill out with Amy, Lina and whoever else is here. It's going to be sort of weird to be here because I think I really would rather go home, but it's already been decided and it's way too much of a hassle to go home for sucha short period before winter break.

- Fetish is this weekend! I think I'm going to be either as preppy or a first-year.
