[[The island appeared to have a great library at it's disposal, as Cynthia never seemed to find herself without a suitable book to read. And as the weather was always so nice, she liked to read outside; embrace a bit of nature whilst getting embroiled into the exciting mythologies of the Sinnoh (and other!) regions ( Read more... )

[It was such a pretty day. Quiet, at least. The air thick with the slanted light indicating that a change of seasons was oncoming. It was peaceful, to put it one way. Boring as hell, to select another. And Maxie had never really been one to tolerate boredom.

At least in Hoenn, there had been things to keep him occupied, even when he didn't require them; on this island, however...well. If Groudon hadn't already destroyed his sanity, the lack of stimulus here would definitely be enough to have done it by now.

Of course, what he found near the entrance to that cave system would probably serve well enough as entertainment.

He keeps his distance for now, shifting his stance into something vaguely hipshot, folding his arms casually across his chest; he actually has the jacket on today, as opposed to leaving it behind - he's at a point where he honestly doesn't care whose attention he gets.]

I didn't expect to see you here, Cynthia.

[[She slid her finger in-between the pages of her book, gently closing it, never moving that hand from Garchomp's pokeball. Maxie....Maxie fascinated her. He was, after all, a very interesting man, in a few very interesting ways. And even though not all of their encounters had been...pleasant, to say the least, she was pleased to discover that she wasn't afraid of him. At least his company could be guaranteed to be unique every time.]]

Well, looks like you're blessed with my company. Got your coat on today, I see.

How very observant of you.

[That statement could have very easily brought some heavy sarcasm with it; as it was, however, his tone remained mild, teasing at most.

The line between what constitutes a good day and what constitutes a bad one tends to be a fluid one, and this is looking to be a good one at the moment; his gaze darts down to the book in her hand before he returns his attention to her face.]

The book you're reading - what is it?

Oh, just another one about the legends in Sinnoh. Most of the material are things I've learned about before, but it's a good refresher.

[[She takes note of the page number, before removing her finger and allowing the book to close, before resting it on her lap and returning his gaze with a smile.]]

What brings you out here?

[The explanation doesn't get much of a response, outside of a quiet, noncommittal noise to indicate that he heard her; the question, however, gets her a bit of an odd look for her effort.]

I see no reason why I wouldn't be out here.

[Granted, most logical people could probably present several reasons why - something he'd probably cite as a technicality if he were aware of it. However...]

[[Cynthia drums her fingernails on the hard cover of her book, giving him a curious glance.]]

...if you say so. What I suppose I meant was what brings you over to me? After a chat?

Morbid curiosity, perhaps - after all, I think your earlier question is more suited toward you than me. This place is a good deal out of your way, isn't it?

I like to explore a bit. And somehow my feet just led me here. There's no epic conspiracy or plotting behind my decision to read here, Maxie, if you're that curious.

[He laughs a bit at that, managing to keep the sound over on the subdued side of things.]

I never suspected otherwise - I'm not anywhere near that paranoid, Cynthia.

Although now that you're here, perhaps there's something I should discuss with you.

Oh?

[[She stops clacking her nails against the book, instead starting to stroke it with her thumb.]]

What's that?

Repayment.

[His gaze flicks pointedly to her hair before returning focus to her features. Studying. Watching her reaction.]

Do you remember offering?

[[She pauses for a moment, not missing that glance aimed at her hair, before a small, cautious smile comes over her face.]]

So you've finally decided something! Let's hear it, then!

In a way, yes.

[That smile of hers is met with a smirk. It's interesting, watching her try so hard to be optimistic.]

I have to question what your limits are, first. There's no sense in asking if you won't deliver, is there?

[[And that actually makes her pout slightly and cross her arms.]]

Whatever it is, Maxie, I can handle it. Don't you underestimate me, now!

[[But her tone is light, and that last word is accentuated with a finger waggle.]]

[He had expected as much.]

I want pain from you again. Either giving or receiving, it's your choice. But pain either way.

[[...and she expected as much. That book is squeezed slightly as her hands tighten on it, and her gaze is fixated on the grass as she thinks.]]

Did you have anything specific in mind for it? For both situations, I mean. Any...ideas what you wanted?
