I stood boxing my shadow, Thinking how to get along

Hey bitches, I'm back:

I guess I haven't found the time to update this thing as frequently as my lost post claimed that I would. What can I say, this semester is kicking my ass. I don't have the time to get 75% of the things accomplished that I want to. I have not played video games or read a book for fun in God knows how long. In addition, what I do get accomplished is usually done half-ass and with mediocre quality. Somehow my grades have yet to suffer from this, but I'm waiting for that popsickle stick bridge to collapse. From what I can gather from my friends out there, it seems like you are all in a similar situation as far as work goes. My advice is to keep on trucking because I'm sure that 10 months from now we would give anything to be in this situation. Sort of thought senior year would be easier though, didn't you?

Along with the last topic, I have begun to notice myself losing touch with some people, and I would wager that is also true for most of you. You know, people you used to see on a daily basis have become a chance encounter in the student union...or a person you used to talk to frequently on IM has been reduced to a weekly away message check with the response of "when the fuck did he/she become a science major?" Anyway, to quote my man Hootie "I wish my dreams alone, could bring back my old friends. But yesterday's just something I can't mend." I suppose it's part of the whole growing up thing that I will have to get used to, but I hope that nothing drastic changes with the people I am really close to and count on more than my family in most ways.

Speaking of times gone by, I am looking forward to Thanksgiving break with fucking unrivaled intensity. I could definitely use the break to take a break from school work as well as get my resume in order to begin the impending quest for gainful employment. Primarily though, I feel the need for some fire-council. Time to kick back, drink some beers, and find out whats going on with my brothers. So Josh, stack some wood and get some ice for the cooler...its almost time to rap.

Pseudo-rapping for now...I officially have a girlfriend for those of you who don't keep up to date with me as much as you should. But hey, who am I to criticize... Anyway, her name is Amanda, she is from RI (yeah, I don't know how it happened either), she is an English major (surprisingly doesn't smoke), and a devout Red Sox fan for those of you it matters to. Thats all about her for now, if you want more then you can ask me personally.

Sports wise...Looks like my Packers are making a run of it again, taking over first place in the division after beating the Vikes today in a close one. However, the remaining schedule is rather difficult and should prove to be a huge test. If they can manage 5-3 over the next 8, they should make the playoffs. I suppose that I should at least take a moment to address the Red Sox world series victory...it being the most important sports event of my life to date. Congrats and all, but I must say that I was very dissapointed. Why you ask?? Because to the best of my knowledge, no one fucking died in the days following the world series win, and Boston has not been burnt to the ground. Don't get me wrong, I don't wish death upon any individuals...wait scratch that, I do...but you know what I mean. After all that anticipation, I really expected shit to be more out of control. If the craziest thing that happened was Pedro getting hit with a baseball during the parade, then I say shame on all you Red Sox fans who claimed you would have "killed my wife" to see the Red Sox win.

Random thought for the day, which I was discussing with my boy Fox earlier this evening: Who is the defining author of our generation, and what has happened to legitimate, insightful literature? The most famous authors of the past twenty years are probably Stephen King and J.K Rowling. I challenge you to contend that either one provides any substantion social commentary in their works. I have a general apathy for King's work, though I have only read Tommyknockers and Cujo. I admit that I love Harry Potter as much as the next person, but the only purpose is to entertain, appropriate for an originally intended children's book. Though good literature should serve two purposes according to Sir Philip Sydney, to educate as well as entertain. The pullitzer prize winners for the last 5 years: Jeffrey Eugenides, Richard Russo, Michael Chabon, Jhumpa Lahiri, and Michael Cunningham. Now I have read Interpreter of Maladies by Lahiri, but I would wager that the other 4 authors have flown beneath the radar of 99% of the American population. And they were supposedly the best writer of their year. It seems people today are only concerned with hediostic entertainment or the emotional masturbation perpetuated by Oprah's Book Club. Hell, I love mindless entertainment too, but I don't think it serves as a complete substitute for intellectual development. Ben contended that today's literary genius has shifted mediums, and that the truely insightful individuals expressed their commentary through movies or TV, such as Scorcese. I think this is a valid point, but as an English major I find it hard to believe that literature is dead. Though I suppose a lot of thigs are these days...In the age of information, idiocy reigns supreme.

I guess I wasn't too vulgar in this post and I feel that I didn't swear nearly fucking enough. Must be too tired to be angry...but rest assured that I still harbor quite a bit of harsh, mother fucking rage. Peace out bitches.
