Today was fun! Two of my cousins from Wisconsin are on a First Robotics team and they went to the regional competition at GVSU. Since it's not a long drive from here, I went! Each team creates a robot with an arm that picks up these "tetras", triangular shapes made out of PVC pipes I think? The robots have to pick up the tetras and place them on these triangular posts, trying to stack on as many as possible, as well as create rows of their color, kinda like tic-tac-toe for extra points.
I got to GVSU in time to see my cousins' team (the N.E.W. Apple Corps) final preliminary match. There are 42 teams, and the top 8 get to advance onto the semi-finals. Things looked a little bleak when the Apple Corps got 14th place in the preliminaries. But the teams form alliances, 3 teams vs. 3 other teams. So the top 8 had to choose alliances. The N.E.W. Apple Corps were the second to last team to be picked, they got in!
There was a lunch break then, and my parents, cousins, aunt & uncle and I went to the team's trailer to get some barbecued food. Free lunch! Yay!
Then the last matches with the 8 alliances began! The goal is to win 2 out of 3 matches. They won the first 1... then 2! Yay! Onto the semi-finals! ...1!!! 2!!! They made it to the finals! It was rather intense. I didn't expect the event to be so exciting! The opposing alliance had the team that the Apple Corps saw as the biggest threat; that team was The Killer Bees. They had a quite formidable alliance! Apple Corps was on the red alliance, Killer Bees on the blue.
Red alliance won the first match! We were cheering our heads off. But blue won the second! The last match would be the decider! Everyone worked really hard! It was so exciting!!
AND WE WON! YAYY!! FIRST PLACE!! That was so cool! I was so happy for them! And cheered some more! I think my hands almost went numb from clapping. But yeah, I'm very glad that I went!
Afterwards I invited my family over to see my apartment, then we went out to eat at Cracker Barrel! More free food for me. X3 I got leftovers too
This week I'm planning on staying away from the internet so I can work on my comic. Well, I'll still have to use it to do research for my science paper for this week. I'll probably check my e-mail regularly, but eee... so much to do!
