To all True, Feeling American Patriots

Nov 03, 2004 16:58

To all my brothers and sisters with heavy hearts, Remember this: Defeat only occurs when you give up.

Bush may have won the election, he will never win my heart, or the hearts of decent, freedom loving people everywhere. The notions of life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, inalienable rights, and egalitarianism are not ideas that will perish, not even at the hands of this madman, regardless of his best efforts to sell them to the highest bidder.

So long as people are willing to take a stand against the greed fueled by the blood of the innocent, and allowing big business to decide our foreign policy, instead of justice, there is hope.

So long as someone is willing to stand up for the working men and women of America, to protect our livelihoods from being just another commodity to sell in the names of outsourcing and corporate profits, there is hope.

So long as someone is willing to fight against ignorance being the status quo, someone who champions the values of knowledge and wisdom, to progress towards a better tomorrow, there is hope.

So long as their is at least one person willing to voice their dissent, to stand up and be heard, in the wake of this blind nationalism, and be a true patriot, upholding the rights and ideas that supposedly define this nation, there is hope.

So long as I have breath in my body, there is hope.

We live in troubling times, but now more than ever we must keep the light of hope burning brightly in this quagmire of injustice and ignorance, and continue to fight the good fight. For if we don't, who will? Let fidelity to justice and decency be steadfast and let our spirits soar high, keeping our eyes not on any single loss, but forward to the next fight, and ultimately, to victory.

So take off the shroud of depression, it is a burden that will only weigh you, and others, down. Dry your eyes from the tears of disappointment and anguish that you cry, for they only cloud your sight from the fact this land is still full of good, hardworking people who have not, and will not, give up the fight for a better way of life. Smile, take pride in who we are and what we stand for and let our eyes reflect the hope we have in our hearts.

This election isn't the end, it's just the beginning, and if you still believe, as I do, then post this everywhere you possibly can. Post it in your livejournal, post it in your Myspace bulletins, forward it to friends that you know who are also upset about this election, post it on goddamn telephone poles around your town for all I care, for we need need to come together now more than ever. Solidarity is not a four letter word, it's a symbol of strength, hope, and above that, it's a statement, a growl uttered from the deepest conviction: We will never give up.

My name is Isaac J.Onigman. I thought about leaving my name off, but I take pride in my words and beliefs, and will never, ever, ever, hide in the shadows because of them. None of us should. If you repost this, your name should be on it as well. We will stand together, and we will stand proudly. Maybe we're fools, or egotists, or maybe even a touch desperate, but I want to see this list grow, and I want to see names. Why? I want to know I'm not the only one.
