It's been over a year
And my last post was fairly negative, so I thought I'd toss something up here.
First, I passed all of my exams (for those of you who aren't on my fb and haven't seen the posts there). That's 4 written exams (5 hours per exam) and 1 oral exam over all of the 4 written areas (1 hour). And they're all behind me!
The stress and strain of preparing for exams was worse than the actual exams.
I never have to do it again. I never have to take another academic exam again in my life. Wow.
ABD. All But Dissertation. All But Dead. All But Drunk. Almost Badly Depressed. I'm sure there's lots more. But I'm thrilled to have achieved it.
Now, to write a book! My dissertation will be a collection of stories and poems that are linked by being influenced by or responses to various fairy tales and/or the fantastic. There will also be a scholarly introduction, the specifications of which I need to work out with my committee.
But I look forward to that work. My first professional aspiration as a kid was to write books. It was never to take BIG ASS exams, so I envision the next academic year as being far more enjoyable than this one was!
