I was up early this morning, but decided against any group rides as I was still worn out from yesterday. However, it was a shame to waste the beautiful weather so after kicking back and resting most the day I got out for a solo ride through BARC at 4PM. I ended up doing four loops of my standard route around Odell and Beaverdam. I was surprised I still had good strength left after riding Friday and Saturday. I managed 52.7 miles in 3 hours 38 minutes a 14.5 mph average.
On my first loop I got on Beaverdam just behind a tandem, guy up front and a lady behind. They were making a good speed but I ended up passing them going up a small hill. I figured they'd just pass me on the next downhill, but they turned north on Soil Conservation Road. A mile and a half later I saw another bike coming up behind and used it as inspiration to keep my speed up. After another mile and a half I gave up on staying ahead and let it pass. It was the same tandem. When they greeted me I asked if they hadn't turned off the road back there. The reply was, "that was just part of our route".
My stats for that leg on Beaverdam was 4.8 miles in 16 minutes 7 seconds with an average of 17.9 mph. Pretty decent for me, though it's slightly downhill. The tandem beat me with some sort of side trip included. I can't figure where they went when they left Beaverdam. I can only imagine they went up Soil Conservation a short way and turned around for some reason.
