There wasn't even a hint of static or crackle this time. Just a faintly triumphant voice that flowed from the speakers almost loud enough to rattle the furniture. "Lockdown in 5.… 4.… 3.… 2.… 1.…" The building didn't shudder or shake this time. It squirmed and twisted and contorted like a panicked snake. And it did it all without seeming to move in the slightest. Not a single chair or dust mote twitched, but anyone awake to notice what was happening was treated to a long tumbling rush of vertigo like no carnival ride ever dreamed of. And it went on and on and on.
