A Real Entry Has Been Long Overdue

RIP, those who lost their lives in the Tucscon shooting...

Reading about the accused gunman now. An article on the Washington Post is describing him as someone who "kept to himself" and "did his own thing." Arrrgh. Can we really stop with portrayals like these, please? Way to perpetuate the "loner"=serial killer stereotype.

It is strange the way the media has portrayed the whole incident. At first I heard that a Congresswoman was shot "at a rally" outside of a grocery store. And I was like, "why would you hold a rally outside a grocery store?" Then I found out that she was just meeting with constituents.

Really, though, while I think that no one is responsible for this shooting except this one evidently crazed individual, I do think it serves as a wakeup call for all of us Americans, and I mean everyone, to tone down the hateful rhetoric. Did it directly cause the shooting? No. But hopefully, just maybe, this tragedy will get people to wake up and to see that people, and their lives, are worth more than any agenda, and that civility is the only way to get anywhere. Rally to Restore Sanity Part II, anyone?

In other news:

It's snowing. We're forecasted to get up to four inches, which means the DC area will freak out, despite having survived Snowmaggedon last year.

It's 2011. Wow. Here's to a good year, and to dispensing my crazy theory that even years are better than odd years. 2010 was better than 2009, because my 2009 sucked, but 2011 will be a good year because I shall make it so. I don't do resolutions though. I have ways in which I am hoping to continuously grow as person, but New Year's resolutions, no.

I'm reading "Eat, Pray, Love." I had mixed feelings about the movie. It had gorgeous eye candy (men, food, and scenery), but I wasn't hugely fond of Liz Gilbert. She comes across as more complex, and likeable, in the book, however, largely because she is able to explain her relationships and decisions more fully.

I loove Pink's new single -- no, make that, I love Pink. Can't believe she put the f-word right there in the title of the song, but I've gotta admire her boldness..

That's about it. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season!
