"Parents always tell them that there's 'nothing there, it's just your imagination." <--- is the greatest and most killing lie ever invented, in my humble opinion, right up there with "You can't do that."
"There is no excuse for a young adult to or not to branch off from their parents, or receive them a little too well." yem, i understand that our parents lies aren't the sole force in this factor. but it amuses me to contemplate the ramifications if they didn't exist
case in point; when i first found out about the lack of said characters i thought myself so very clever, but then became pissed that i still had to play along as i had a younger brother. my revenge? i told my brother. ruining the 'magic' for him as well... immediately after, watching my brother's 'heart break' at the expense of my pettiness, i felt even worse and still do. yes, perpetuating these lies might add a touch of ones' own lost awe to the season... but how can you inevitably 'break' a child's imagination so when they find out?
