omg omg OMG!!! totally just finished watching the first episode *takes deep breath* okay here we go.
i will start with the two things i didn't like first of all. I HATE the boy playing Arthur, im sorry he looks like a girl and just does not have the vibe. the only thing i like about his portrayle is the brute aspect which i think will show up later. cause lets face it, the real Arthur likely had an attitude. Also i hate the actress playing Morgan, she is just no Katie. Love her and Lot together though, great Chemistry. ;) James Purfoy never keeps his clothes on very long.
ok now for what i DID like about it. first off i love the setting they placed it in. its about time someone went back to Roman Britain. loved the Villa like Camelot instead of the Castle. the customs were not perfect, but i can over look it. :) they need better horses though, they are the same ones as the Tudors, kind of so so. not bad riding on the boys part though.
great use of Malory they stuck to some of the main points pretty well. a few that jumped out at me where: Arthur Birth, Merlin taking Arthur as a baby, Arthur growing up with Kay and Ector. Who are must better as nice people. Also Lots oldest son dying at Arthur hand. i love also the brining back of Arthur's Magical conception. I loved some of the Celtic elements as well. i think they will end up being the "magic" connections. as well as the tensions between Christians and Pagans. loved the use of Arthur as a Roman Christian as well. also the idea of Morgan being Uthers daughter insted of Igrane's daughter we a nice change. a littler "Merlin" connection their.
Josef as Merlin...well i must confess im not a fan of his because of Elizabeth so he will take some getting used to. hes doing alright though. he was Great as Martin Luther.
the knights are pretty darn smexy, much hotter then Arthur himself which is kind of upsetting. can't wait to see Gwain and Lancelot. Also i love this Guinevere!!! she is lovely. even if we did just see her in Arthur dirty sex dream ha ha.
some people made some comments that the sex scenes were not really needed. personally that didn't really bother me, as for this brute Romainized Britain it kind of fits. the Romans were pretty "free" (just to be nice) with that stuff so who cares.
Arthur as a "player" well he likely was if he was one of those many warlords running around in the 400 -500's so i say bring it. I JUST WISH HE WOULD CUT HIS FREAKING HAIR!!!!!
okay i could just keep ranting but in short, i think i am really going to like this and i am really excited to see were it goes. im not even thinking about comparing it to Merlin as its a while different attitude and its trying to show a whole other context. Michael Hirst you amazed me with the Tudors and i think you have done it again!!!! thank you!!!
