how i came to love arashi
Day 30 - Whatever tickles your fancy
to conclude my 30 days of arashi challenge, i will do a semi-photoblog on how everything started. well at least those points that i can remember.
here goes...
just like ALMOST everybody else, i was domyouji jun baited. if arashi is a human body, i say matsumoto jun is the chief of the pheromone secreting office. if there is such thing. he attracts very much willing girls (and at times, boys as well) and starts to lure them slowly in the fandom. supporting this, the very first arashi related jdrama that got me hooked was,
i know that didn't came as a surprise. it's HANA YORI DANGO. but i didn't turn into an arashi fan right after seeing this. heck, i didn't even know that a certain 'ARASHI' exists. all i know was that this extra cute couple is slowly growing in me. opening song didn't even catch my attention, it was cute and something that one (i) would expect from a Japanese show. and, i finished watching this drama in less than 48 hours straight.
as i continue this journey to the fandom, one particular site became a best bud.
it fed my curiosity with this permed guy. with growing interest plus the fact that i was a bum back then, my video (and sometimes article) searches lead from one clip to another. that is how i discovered he is 1/5 of a Japanese pop boy band called Arashi.
after that point i was on this denial stage. denial that i am once again being caught up in the bubble gum pop frenzy. i am a backstreet fanatic you see. am not was, since i still go gaga over them from time to time, but not as much. going back to the topic. a particular video clip made me nuts.
Ohno Satoshi's "YOU, marry me" line is a winner. *claps* so... he is the 'leader' or Riida. the butt of jokes and pranks, poor cute dude. his somewhat blank expression makes me giggle and gives me the urge to just jump up to him and squish his chubby cheeks. i still don't have a clue on what ans episode was this, though. another clip that made me love him more was the hna maou prank episode.
ohno sporting a black hair is yum. agree? *nods* a leader who doesn't lead, he is more of a supporter. I was now wavering between Jun and Ohno. It's apparently evident that Ohno is weighing more than Jun. ironic as it is that i was domyoujun baited, i've always prefer the happy giddy jun.
during this time, i still haven't admitted to myself that i am turning into a fan. but i have this guilt feeling that i somehow must know the names of the 'other' members for courtesy sake.
the guy who fails too much in love professing,
and then, there's the other guy who appeared in a Hollywood war movie, which i wouldn't have seen if not for my brother who is a sucker for war movies,
and the airhead...
my brain wasn't cooperating, that's why i still had difficulty remembering who is who.
with the aid of youtube, i came across aiba masaki's english video compilation which im pretty sure almost everyone had seen already.
who on earth would ask a cheetah if he is ok or not? only aiba. him who somehow thinks animals' default language is English. after seeing his adventures and mis-adventures, plus the fact that he is extra adorable and his undeniable infectious laugh it had been decided that he is now my second favourite.
still lurking around youtube, i stumble upon another ans clip. their guest was nakagawa shouko, episode 52. the episode where sho sakurai cosplayed as a maid. :) :)
the dude who raps and makes those hand gestures in their pv's.
those gestures. there is a lot but i'm obviously too lazy to look for it.
the last but not the least member that i came to know was ninomiya kazunari, the iwo jima guy,
who plays the guitar and piano. *swooooooooon* ohno's love or was it the other way around? i was still clueless on this pairings, and maybe would've freaked out if i learned about it early this stage. or maybe not.
whilst a youtube lurker, i've learned about livejournal which is a home for subbed arashi videos. and had also discovered that in order for me to access and dl them i first have to have an lj account in which i was reluctant about since i'm pretty much all over the internet already - fs, fb, tumblr, multiply, plurk. i've satisfied my arashi video cravings which is accessible aka youtube and those users who shares videos publicly.

leave it to ohno, to ask the most mundane questions in inappropriate moments. that's why i love you to bits. and i can understand why the storyteller was a bit stumped upon hearing ohno's question, because i am too.
this screenies, from the second haunted house episode are too precious to not include here. oh, aiba. :)
speaking of video downloads. my idiocy had kicked in during my first attempt of doing this. you see, i didn't understand what split files mean so i was attempting to play them separately. and i was getting more frustrated when the files that i re-downloaded still won't play. but amazingly, with the help of tangerinesun i was able to figure out that i first have to join them before i can watch the whole video.
i was now slowly accepting the fact that i am turning into a fangirl. the one that had completely transformed me into one was their AAA in Tokyo 2008.
i immediately loved their songs. it's happy. jumpy. and fun. appropriate for those moments when you're in the dumps (at least for me though.) since my life was uber dramatic during the time when they released this video concert.
summing this all up, what made me love them is the fact that they are easy on the eyes.
they are not afraid to make a fool out of themselves,
or maybe that's because they know that they still look extra cute when they do.
they seem to be really good friends,
just like what aiba said, "...very close friends, as well as very good rivals..."
and also because, THEY THEMSELVES TREASURE AND LOVES ARASHI :)
