First day at IBM

Feb 09, 2006 02:10

Well, it wasn't too bad, now that I've had a couple of hours to unwind.

I think I can sum up the experience with the closing remarks on my welcome sheet: "Welcome to your new home."

The people seemed like good enough people, but in terms of both personality and interests, I'm pretty much perpendicular to the vast majority of them; the only ones who seemed like they really liked it there were asian.

Also, I had a meeting in the morning, briefly summed up the meeting with the foot-note 'any feedback?" And the feedback I got was 'you got a few things wrong, and I expected a few paragraphs at least. Try again." And my supervisor assigned me a presentation for Monday, saying that he likes to assign things for mondays, because it gives people the weekend to make the deadline (translation: we don't make you work on weekends, but we try to set deadlines that require you to).

Oh, and they charge 10c per plastic utensil.

Yeah, I have no idea what to expect for tomorrow... the day started okay, but I felt emotionally exhausted by the end of it. I'm gonna call someone soon and see if they want to go for a movie/dinner or something, and hopefully get my phone back all set up and stuff.

I'll check back in tomorrow. :)
