In the big toe

hey all.

So it's been forever since I updated; I figured this would be a good time, since I'm now alone in Toronto for around 3 or 4 months.

Anyway, I just got my computer (mostly) working, although it was kind of expensive partly due to computer hardware I knew I had to buy, and partly due to the fact that I overestimated the modernity of the TV I was getting as part of my furnishings, and it doesn't have S-video, and I left the stupid 15c adapter at home so I had to go all across creation finding someone who could sell me the thingie I needed for $35.

Bah... tired. I guess I'll find out tomorrow what things will be like.

Also, if anyone knows of an open SMTP server I can get access to, my landlord set up Rogers for me but didn't leave the login number, so I can't send email, and everyone seems to be under the impression that open SMTP servers cause spam (rather than spammers).

Anyway, I'll probably wrote more often in this from now on, at least while I'm in Toronto, since I don't have all that much else to do with my evenings. :)

Interesting fact: York transit costs 2.50 a pop, and doesn't go any distance towards the fare for TTC transit, which is also 2.50 a pop, so if I wanted to take a trip downtown, it would cost me 10.00. Unless I wanted to buy a week's GTA pass, which seems to be ludicrously expensive. I note that noone I talk to seems to think that 10.00 is a lot, while in Halifax, the 2.00 we pay each direction is considered completely unreasonable by most.

Along the same lines, IBM seems surprised that I can't front over 5000.00 for them at the drop of a hat. 60 students a year for over a decade, and they're still surprised by my asking for an advance. That seems strange to me.
