This is going to probably offend many of my democratic friends. It isn't meant to offend--it's just an observation ( Read more... )

And, just out of curiosity, would any anti-Bush voters be surprised to hear that perhaps President Bush DID in fact serve his country in an honorable way, but is unable to tell anyone because of the nature of his mission

I will be voting against Bush this November. Yes, it would in fact surprise me if Bush was involved in a secret mission. I will cite this as a source for a timeline and keep the politics of that page out of it. Bush was in the National Guard 226 days his first year, 313 his second -- and that's where the information is called into question. You're suggesting that someone with 2 years of service (the well-known son of a well-known senator I believe) was involved in secret missions that cannot be spoken of here 30 years later. Sure, it's possible. Occam's razor suggests this not to be the case. All our enemies from 30 years ago are either dissolved (USSR, East Germany) or in very different positions (China, North Korea, Cuba). It is doubtful that a Guardsman of 2 years would be involved in sensitive operations which cannot be disclosed 30 years later.

I am convinced in my heart that he was gone, not supporting his Guard unit in any way and his absence was either approved or purposefully overlooked due to familial influence. It was W's right to ask his superior officer for time away from his post to help daddy campaign or whatever. It was within W's CO's jurisdiction to approve this request. If this actually happened or not, I don't really care. So much of a big deal is being made over something that happened 30 years ago. Even if W messed up and went on a 2 year coke snorting binge, he's a very different person now. I think I've grown and gotten more courage in 10 years, I can only imagine 20 more will contine that trend.

I'm voting against W for a variety of reasons, none of which I want to get into in a forum such of this. Kerry addresses all of my major concerns, so he will be my venue for voting against W.
