Lurking in...onlyonechoiceJuly 14 2006, 06:23:45 UTC
Hello!
I found you through thornwolf's journal (I'm not on her flist, but I commissioned her a few years ago for some art and still peruse her public entries), and I was happy to see someone else read "Catamount"!
I'd love to hear any nature/raptor stories; my cousin runs the Institute for Environmental Learning (scroll down to the "I"s) up in upstate NY, is a licensed falconer, and when I visited him last he had two bald eagles at his place (one of which I remember as an immature, and have pictures in the family album with her on my arm), as well as a red-tailed hawk, a barred owl and several screech owls.
I've had the chance to see bald eagles in the wild as well, as a mated pair have taken up residence in the park near my parents' house (I've seen the male and one of the fledges so far, and hope to see more of them).
I've always been fascinated by wildlife, and my father and my cousin Paul have been instrumental in feeding that fascination. At any rate, it's nice to stumble onto not only a Michael Peak fan, but someone who also loves wildlife.
I'll friend you back, but my stories might not be as riveting. Up to you!

Good morning, Tanya!
Thank you for your comment! It's wonderful to meet other individuals who have read Michael Peak's novel Catamount. I have to say, Catamount is my absolute favourite novel of all time! I love the bald eagle character of "Lanakila" and have chosen to adopt his name as my online Internet personal since 1995. I read the book when it first came out onto the market back in 1992. I remember that I couldn't put the book down. Just like today's Harry Potter fans who want to read the novel all throughout the night, I purposely woke up from my nighttime slumber and finished reading Catamount. Being a bald eagle fan, I naturally fell in love with Lanakila's personality! *grin*
I have Michael Peak's only other novel he ever published: Cat House, which was his first novel. *smiles* Loved both books, but Catamount is my absolute fave!
I think it's awesome that you have a love for wildlife. It's also wonderful that you have a licensed falconer in your family! Eeee! That is so cool and very nifty indeed! I do volunteer work at a wildlife centre, helping out with the birds of prey facility and taking care of the raptors. I don't have my falconer's license yet (I live in urban Toronto where it's not conducive to own a raptor). I will have to take a look at your weblink sometime this weekend, as I'm almost ready to head out the door and volunteer at Mountsberg (the wildlife centre) this morning.
*smiles* So wonderful to hear about the opportunities of seeing bald eagles in the wild. If you ever have pictures of the nested pair close to your parents place, I'd love to see them!
I will add you to my Friends' List so that you could read my weekly adventures and tales from the Mountsberg Wildlife Centre. *smiles* I have plenty of raptor stories and nature tales to talk about. So please, I hope you enjoy the reading!
