This is going to be one of those rapid-fire posts where I say a lot of different stuff but nothing at all, isn't it?

On the recommendation of a friend, I have been checking out The Newsroom. Three episodes in, my opinion is thus: it has some problems but a lot of potential. Its aim, which seems to me to be encouraging the public to open their eyes and ears and think more critically when it comes to the media, is a noble one. Stewart and Colbert come to mind, and, in the fictional realm, Alan Shore. The main item on my wish list has to do with making Jeff Daniels' character slightly more likeable. Alan Shore had wit and charisma. Will, for the moment, merely reads as a grumpy misanthrope. Perhaps he will grow on me, and, in saying that, of course I am revealing that I like the show enough to continue watching. I could stand to see more of Jim making eyes at Maggie, after all.

You know how sometimes you don't realize you wanted something to happen until it actually does and is kind of awesome? The Killers covering Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger":

I finally watched The Avengers the other day, and I really get the Tom Hiddleston thing now. You were meant to be ruled, indeed. I probably still won't watch War Horse. I loved The Avengers, by the way, even though I felt like I was joining the story halfway through. Having never seen Thor or Captain America or any of the Ironman movies, I have a feeling I was missing a great deal of information going into the viewing experience. I have some catching up to do. Woe, what a task I have before me.

Awesome things about The Avengers, in no particular order:
  • Jeremy Renner's arms
  • The way Natasha/Black Widow was written. So splendidly Joss, right? Because she's obviously sexy, but he doesn't dwell on that. He doesn't make "eye candy" her main role in the story. Everybody's attractive, everybody kicks a lot of ass. Listen to how profound I am. It's astounding.
  • All manner of bromance. No need to point me in the direction of the slash. I've already found it.
