2011, it's been truly grand.

Will you be looking for a new job?
I have been considering going back to work sooner than I had originally planned, i.e. 2013, when Sebastian will start kindergarten. My tentative plan for 2012 is to, at the very least, scan all my relevant documents into the teacher job system and pay for one credit so that the local board can access my information.

Will you be looking for a new relationship?
New friendships, maybe.

New house?
As far as I know, no.

What will you do differently in 2012?
Here is what I'm working toward, and I began this to a certain extent in 2011: if there is ever something I want to do, and the only barrier to going ahead with it is one I have created in my mind (what if I fail? what if I look stupid?), I am going to go for it.

New Years resolution?
See above. Also, I have a few goals in mind: train for the May half-marathon in Ottawa, save money for June Vegas trip, become a more involved member of Abi's school community. Then of course there is the usual read more & write more duo.

What will you not be doing in 2012?
Allowing fear and my own neuroses to dictate my decisions.

Any trips planned?
March in Toronto for a tragically Paul Maurice-free Toronto vs. Carolina game, Ottawa in May for the half-marathon, and Vegas in June for a friend's 30th birthday celebration.

Wedding plans?
Um, no?

What's on your calendar?
Everything I already mentioned, plus other relevant birthdays. Oh, and the release dates for The Hunger Games and The Dark Knight Rises. Yesss.

What can't you wait for?
The Hunger Games. The Dark Knight Rises. The Vegas trip. I want to take a day tour to Red Rock Canyon. All the photos I've seen of it make it seem too beautiful to miss.

What would you like to see happen differently?
Less discord in the world? I know that is a long shot, though.

What about yourself will you be changing?
Mostly I just plan on trying harder to work through my fear and predisposition toward negativity.

What happened in 2011 that you didn't think would ever happen?
I registered for the half-marathon and joined a book club - pretty big deals for an introvert like me.

Will you be nicer to the people you care about?
Of course. I would like to be a better person in general.

Will you dress differently this year than you did in 2011?
Unlikely. I know there are all these "rules" about how a 30 year old should dress, but I think they are ridiculous. Probably I will buy some more hats.

Are you going to be in school in 2012?
I might take another ABQ (Continuing Teacher Education course) in the fall, if I don't get a job.

How will you make more money in 2012?
I'm a stay-at-home-mom. I have no real way of answering this.

Will you do charity work?
I might do the Terry Fox run again in the fall.

Are you going to drink on New Years Eve?
Yup. Cosmos, mostly, inspired by my recently acquired addiction to Sex and the City.

Will you be nice to people you don't know?
I will try.

Do you expect 2012 to be a worse year for you than 2011?
Nope. Why set oneself up to fail like that? It's going to be beautiful.

How much did you change from this time last year until now?
I think I've changed a bit. I'm a bit bolder and working on becoming more comfortable in my own skin.

Do you plan on having a child?
Nope. My uterus is officially in retirement.

Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with now?
Definitely!

Major lifestyle changes?
Less negativity, more protein.

Will you be moving?
Only my booty.

What will you make sure doesn't happen in 2012 that happened in 2011?
No more allowing my own silly worries to hold me back.

What are your New Year's Eve plans?
Cosmos and apps and Sarah Connor Chronicles with the husband. Maybe some Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin when the time is right.

Will you have someone to kiss at midnight?
But of course. I think the whole kiss at midnight thing is a little overrated, though.

Wishes for 2012:
  • Jeff Martin and Florence Welch "Seven Devils" duet.
  • See The Kills live? Or Ray LaMontagne.
  • New Killers album.
  • Write a book.
  • Finish the half-marathon. Two and a half hours would be fine with me. Less would be better. Finishing is key, though. Also: not dying.
  • Nick/Jess romance, OMG.
  • Leafs in the Cup race?
  • Paul Maurice hired by an Eastern Conference team. (Gosh, I miss him.)

And, quickly, my "Best Of" Lists for 2011:
Movies: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Muppets.

Music: Beirut's The Ripe Tide, The Kills' Blood Pressures, Florence + The Machine's Ceremonials, Feist's Metals, Bright Eyes' The People's Key, Fleet Foxes' Helplessness Blues, The Decemberists' The King is Dead, Adele's 21, Say Hi's Um, Uh Oh. It was a damn good year for music.

Books: (This refers to books actually released in 2011, which is why I have not included The Hunger Games, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and The Girl Who Played with Fire in the list, though they were the best books I read all year.) Mr. Fox by Helen Oyeyemi, The Submission by Amy Waldman. I haven't read The Cat's Table by Michael Ondaatje yet. I hope to get around to it in 2012.

Things I Shamefully But Not-So-Secretly Loved: Sex and the City, Gossip Girl, Kim Kardashian, James Franco's boredom at the Oscars.

2012 needs more: Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Max Greenfield, Nick + Jess, Lincoln Lee, Peter + Olivia, hope, love and understanding, harmonica solos, Jason Segel (have you seen this? It's old, but I had not seen it, and everyone should see it).

2012 needs less: Doomsayers. GTFO, Daniel Pinchbeck.

In closing, I hope everyone has a really fabulous and safe evening, and I will see you all in the new year. May it bring wonderful things for everyone. :)
