let's hear it for the boy

Reason #523 Felicia Day wins (and rocks) the Miss Most Adorkable sash. (Also known as reason #1 I am super jealous of all the Comic-Con attendees on my f-list, despite the fact that I would probably never go to anything like that because OMG! HUGE CROWDS OF PEOPLE = GERMS.):

Found right here, dude.

They did a music video for season three of The Guild! They showed it at Comic-Con! I want to see it! Evidently it will be released on MSN Video and elsewhere on August 17th, for those of us lowly peons not in possession of an Xbox LIVE system. Season three of The Guild is supposed to start soon as well, I think? Colour me psyched.

When it comes to preserving family memories, in addition to scrapbooks and photo albums, I keep two journals - one for Abigail and one for Sebastian. In these I record milestones, quotes and song lyrics, hopes and fears, and, every now and then when the mood strikes me, self-penned stories and poems. Under the cut is the introduction to a silly thing I started writing for my boy the other night. I don't know. I just feel like posting it.

Sebastian's Smile, a Story
(from The Serendipitous Adventures of Sir Sebastian & his Faithful Flamboyant Dragon Beauregard)

All mothers believe their children's smiles to be the brightest and most beautiful in all the world, but Sebastian's mother was convinced that her little boy's smile not only humbled the sunshine; Sebastian's smile had magic in it.

As a babe, Sebastian had appeared in a series of cosmetic dentistry advertisements, the tagline for which was always, "Four and a half experts on Teeth and Such Things agree: the only cute toothless grin belongs to a child." The "half" referred to a gnome expert on Such Things, who'd resented being reduced to a fraction and threatened to sue for defamation. One million quid! The advertisements ran anyway. The gnome filed his suit, won, but was awarded only exactly half of what his counsel had pursued. This award the gnome took not happily, but as a personal attack by judge and jury, and, when the pronouncement of damages to be paid was made, a most violent volley of tomatoes and other ambiguous fruit/vegetable-type things he did precipitate. It was all a very nasty business, really, but, apart from that, and apart from the fact that Sebastian had been born nearly three decades too late to have ever had any chance of reuniting the popular musical quartet, The Fireflies, Sebastian's smile was most magical - in the fortuitous sense of the word. His mother was convinced of it! And here now, dear Reader, I will relate to you The Reasons Why.

to be continued..
