find nothing but faith in nothing

My pretty The Tudors Anne Boleyn mood theme was created by andleap. It took forever to upload, but I do love it so.

#9 Eve 6 - "Inside Out"
Album: Eve 6
Released: 1998

Fill in the blank: Eve 6 was awesome because the band's name was an X-Files reference. Although overall their self-titled album was not as strong as their 2000 release, Horrorscope, "Inside Out" is the track that I always go back to. I had my first summer job in 1998. I worked at a vegetable processing/packaging plant, writing down weights of pea-filled wheelbarrows and, later on in the summer, picking undesirables out of green beans as they bounced by on a conveyor belt. To survive the 11 hour shifts (day and night - we alternated) doing what had to be one of the most tedious jobs ever, I would get songs stuck in my head and play them over and over. "Inside Out" was one of them. Believe it or not, at the time the "tie me to the bedpost" bit in the bridge was absolutely scandalous to my 16 1/2 year old never-even-been-kissed self, and, consequently, made me giggle like mad. That was an interesting summer. Among others, I met a girl who told stories about her drug dealing grandmother, a dude with a fro who was an avid fan of William Blake, and a wheelbarrow guy who threw peas at me.

ETA: I was just listening to music in bed, tearing up over "Closer" by Better than Ezra. I guess I'd never really paid much attention to the lyrics before. The last bit in particular really got me.

And the morning light was breaking
Slowly moving across the bed
He gets up without her waking
To the voices in his head

Through the shadows in the hallway
To the room they painted blue
And on the inside he is frightened
At a loss for what to do

Until he opens up his eyes
And the angels all look down

Even closer than this life
Closer than your faith
Closer than the things that you hold dearly
And in vain
Closer than this life
Falling through again
Giving more than anything
That you could hope to win

And he knows his life is changing
It's never easy letting go
For the first time you are mortal
As the child before you grows
And he wonders at the sight
Of the joy that he has found

Even closer than this life
Closer than your faith
Closer than the things that you hold dearly
And in vain
Closer than this life
Falling through again
Giving more than anything
That you could hope to win

And what would you intend to find?
Solitude? Your peace of mind?
Holding out for something less
Than touching the hand of God?

Even closer than this life
Closer than this faith
Closer than the things that you hold dearly
And in vain
Closer than this life
Falling through again
Giving more than anything
That you could hope to win

Closer than this life
Closer finally
Living for the only thing
You ever made complete
Oh, for the one thing
That you both did perfectly
