things I have been meaning to discuss

1. Cat Deeley is too completely genuine and sweet and generally awesome to be real. In my hands, every attempt to discuss SYTYCD becomes a love song.

2. MARK KANEMURA AND HIS BRIGHTLY COLOURED AMERICAN APPAREL V-NECK SHIRTS.

3. Jill Sobule released a cute folky song called "I Kissed a Girl" back in 1995 that was vastly superior to Katy Perry's 2008 pop musical take on sexual experimentation of the same name. The end.

Please don't throw things at me for this, but, though "The Scientist" and "Fix You" break my heart, I may have on more than one occasion called Coldplay overrated. That being said, I am all for giving credit where credit is due, and Viva La Vida is kind of epic.

I am a great fan of big music and music that tells an interesting story. By big I mean that it sounds like it was conceived, produced, and recorded in a great cathedral (or something: see Arcade Fire's Neon Bible and, albeit to a lesser extent, Sam Roberts' Chemical City). I have a hard time listening to the title track without picturing Chris Martin dancing and singing up and down the aisles, with the band and string section up in the balcony, and no one even needs a mic because the acoustics are so brilliant.

Ringo Starr is playing Caesars Windsor tomorrow night. If I still lived downtown, I might be tempted to go Beatle-spotting.
