honah lee: where dreams go to die

I went looking for "Puff, the Magic Dragon" on YouTube for Abi today, because I wanted to sing it to her but couldn't remember all of the words, and apparently I had forgotten exactly how depressing the song is. For some reason I'd thought it ended on a hopeful note, but no. It's kind of like, you're going to get old and boring, and then you're going to die. Sorry! It is the emo of children's music.

Puff, the Magic Dragon
Lyrics by Leonard Lipton & Peter Yarrow

Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff,
and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Oh!

Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his name. Oh!

Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giants' rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play, along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave,
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh!

Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

To happier news. I've lost another four pounds, which is awesome even though I still have about ten to go before I'm satisfied. I was really concerned that I wouldn't lose any at all, in the beginning, so, progress is good.

Last night I had another Paul Maurice-as-professor dream. This time it was geography though, instead of chemistry, and the desks in the classroom were abnormally tall. And I was a better student. I also had a dream that Bob Dylan died, and I wandered around some city I didn't know weeping and trying to find a way to properly pay tribute to him. I really don't know.

frodolyn made pretty Terminator!ballerina icons (frodolyns_art), and I'm using one in this post even though I don't have anything to add re: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - (although I do wish they'd got Nick Stahl or some other actor to play John; Thomas Dekker lacks...something. natural charisma? charm?). Summer dancing = ♥
