as the futon unfolds; all my ottomans

I don't watch TV at the gym all that often. I listen to my iPod and now and then my eyes wander up to the row of television sets, some of which have closed captioning turned on. I try not to read the closed captioning or allow myself to be distracted by the images, but sometimes I can't help it. My point is, for what seems like the past couple of weeks I've been catching bits of some soap opera in which two characters, Patrick and Robin (I think), constantly argue over furniture and the arrangement of furniture and things of this nature, and it's really getting to be quite ridiculous.

The scenes typically go something like this:
Patrick: *has a completely neutral reaction to the black leather couch Robin has purchased for him*
Robin: "Oh, what? You don't like the couch? I was trying to be spontaneous. I thought you would like it."
Patrick: "It's not that I don't like it. It's just..."
Robin: "I could return it and get it in a different colour if you want, or move it to a different spot, or have it reupholstered. Or, did you want to pick out the couch yourself?"
Patrick: "The couch is fine."
Robin: "You know, I thought decorating this apartment was something we could do together. I thought it would be fun. Am I being too controlling? DOES LIKING THE COUCH I BOUGHT FOR YOU FEEL TOO MUCH LIKE COMMITMENT, PATRICK?
Patrick: "No, Robin. Chill. It's fine. I just didn't expec--"
Robin: "WHY DON'T YOU LOVE ME? *bursts into tears and runs out of the apartment*"
Patrick: *shakes his head and lies down on the couch*

Seriously. Who watches this crap?

And, while I'm on the subject of television, Jacob wrote another brilliant Apprentice 6 recap. I am in awe. Also? Really and truly thisclose to tuning in to this repulsive show I swore I would never watch again, (so that I can mock it and talk about how repulsive it is, of course :P).

life, telly, random, the apprentice
