dharma cornflakes

I watched LOST again tonight with Scott and realized that I missed quite a bit whilst my attention was diverted on my first viewing.

1. Oh, so it was Jin who couldn't have children. *facepalm* I need to put my laptop under a pillow in the bedroom or something when I'm watching the television. I can't believe I missed that entire conversation between Sun and the doctor. But anyway, I believe that Sun is telling the truth. What reason would she have to lie? It's something weird with the island, is what I say.

2. Dharma cornflakes! I don't know. I found that amusing.

3. (a) I maintain my belief that the Other was only playing mind games with that, "Ooh, maybe it's a trap!" bit. There is a crazed tone that enters his voice, but I imagine that if someone beat the shit out of me then locked me up in a tiny closet for three days I might be sounding a little crackers myself. Or maybe it is a trap, but on a larger scale. As in, the mind game sets the trap. Other dude says this is what I would do if I was an Other, Jack and Locke get nervous and, thinking it's better to be safe than sorry, go out to search for their fellow island-dwellers, and BAM, unspeakable doom befalls our heroes.

(b) This show, man. This show messes with your mind, man. I found myself trying to figure out what was on the back of the paper upon which the Other - (What the hell is his name? I know that he's from Minnesota, but what is his name? Henry?) - drew the map. It was a title page from a book, I think, but what book? And does it really matter?

4. I noticed this the first time around but forgot to mention it in my weekly LOST ramble: Kate makes an offhand remark about the fact that it seems a little odd that someone might be travelling with a pregnancy test and, in doing so, puts into words exactly what I was thinking throughout much of the episode. Though of course the test could be from the stock of supplies they found in the hatch. It probably is. What was the company name on the label? Midland?

5. I am amused by the new Jack vs. Locke dynamic, (though personally I'd rather see the Mr. Eko-Locke dynamic explored further - Jack doesn't have quite enough depth to him). Pretty soon they're going to be squabbling like an old married couple.

1. Scott got The Beekeeper for me and the entire album is absolutely beautiful. Tori ♥ The woman has magic in her voice, I tell you. (I made a few purty icons in celebration of the gorgeous album, but I'm using the Bored/Sleepy Paul icon for this post as it matches my mood better.)

2. Good Night, and Good Luck. I don't have a lot to say about it, other than that I found it very honest and inspiring. Also, I think it's a timely film that everyone should see. It isn't difficult to see how much of what Murrow said back in the 1950s could easily be applied to present times.

"We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men- not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular. This is no time for men who oppose Senator McCarthy's methods to keep silent, or for those who approve. We can deny our heritage and our history, but we cannot escape responsibility for the result. There is no way for a citizen of a republic to abdicate his responsibilities. As a nation we have come into our full inheritance at a tender age. We proclaim ourselves, as indeed we are, the defenders of freedom, wherever it continues to exist in the world, but we cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home." (Edward R. Murrow, See it Now, 9 March 1954)

I have no frame of reference to aid me in making the call with regards to whether or not David Strathairn gave an accurate portrayal of Edward R. Murrow. I can only say that the performance moved me with its apparent simplicity and its sincerity, and the speeches gave me chills. Even the little speeches that Murrow made to his staff were memorable. Seems to me like he was a hell of a journalist, and a hell of a guy. See the film.

3. I went a little icon crazy - (well, for me) - today. Even made a couple Jake icons. Which reminds me: BBM comes out on DVD on April 4. Hoorah! Actually, I probably won't buy it right away, as I am le broke, you see.

I'm so tired. I really should go to bed. Ah, what the heck...

I don't know why this picture makes me giggle so. The hat just makes me think trucker. Or Mountain Man.

Tummy!
