So we've this cat that's been hanging around our apartment since we moved in. He's an outdoor cat, there's actually lots of outdoor cats in this neighborhood which surprises me quite a bit since we're so close to the city and a lot of heavy traffic. He's the most loving cat you'd ever see, one of those cats that loves everybody (and I mean everybody!), he's such a whore for affection. And he's great, he treats everyones' homes like it's his own. He doesn't hiss or bite or swat at all, he just endlessly wants to be petted and lots of times he'll just sit on us and knead for ages. He's the proudest of outdoor cats, he gets to play all day and loves to hunt, especially in our courtyard. Rob's even found a few gifts on our doormat, trophies I guess. Oh, and he's really cute to boot, he's got short grey hair, really clean, doesn't shed any, and the cutest of cat personalities; he'd slaughter any KittenWar contenders, 8 days a week.
For the longest time we didn't know who he belonged to (but we figured he belonged to someone since he had a collar, but no tags), and when we asked our immediate neighbors we all got different stories, apparently everybody in the neighborhood lets them him in their apartments. I can't say I blame them, we do the same thing ourselves, mainly because he gets into our apartments whether we want him to or not. Anytime we step out for a cigarette he could be on the other side of the door and when it opens he runs inside and doesn't want to leave until he's ready, and eventually we just decided to humor him let him hang out with us for brief periods of time. Our neighbor Nikki even told us about how he snuck in her bedroom from one of the back windows and climbed into her closet and hung out there for hours until she went to sleep, where basically he jumped out of the closet onto her and freaked the hell out of her. We never knew his name for the longest time either, we just called him "Guss" 'cause that's what what one of our neighbors thought his name was. It wasn't until much later that we learned his name was "Jiro" when we caught his owner whistling for him next door, not to mention finally learned who his owner was.
Anyhow, when the snow came a few weeks back Jiro went missing. He immediately was on our minds and we were worried about him because we basically saw him every day. Then we saw missing cat posters for Jiro around the neighborhood and it confirmed our worries. Even after the snow melted and he wasn't found we were convinced he died somewhere, and we were kind of sad about that.
Then just the other day, you-know-who showed up while Rob and I were going outside for a cigarette. Rob was like "no that can't be him", but then he instantly proved us wrong when he ran inside our apartment. Oh joy!
