I went to my first gaming convention this weekend, Ucon 2011, and had such a good time. Didn't get to play the board games I'd had my eye on; they sold out early. I painted a miniature, played a Hogwarts role playing game, was amazed at the multitudinous dice in the vendor area. I'd really wanted to see some live play of Magic: The Gathering, because
chaeche makes it sound so cool. But there was no Magic that I could find. Guess I'm going to have to get myself to one of the sessions at a game store...
I felt really comfortable with the crowd at the con; they were all welcoming and sharing. Got have lunch off a gourmet sandwich food truck. Who really underestimated the quantity of food gamers need. They thought they'd be around until after dinner, and they sold out of everything a bit after 2:00. The kind-of-famous-in-Detroit Mexican Food Truck never showed up, and I suspect that Cthulu had all his tentacles full of delicious tacos, while disconsolate gamers went hungry. There were a lot of games with a Lovecraftian theme, and you don't go messing with The Old Ones without paying the price!
