Settling in at Aeternitas
Waiting for registration this afternoon... then it looks like nonstop activity through the weekend!
I think that the Dark Lord arranged my flight from Detroit into the Manchester airport... my seat was across the aisle from irishredlass69! juniperus was supposed to be on the flight as well, but bad weather cancelled her connecting flight. The Dark Lord is apparently not powerful enough to control Michigan travel conditions for his minions. Shuttled to the hotel with subvers; who had her luggage disappear for a bit into the airline's luggage vanishing cabinet.
Had dinner with subvers at the Chinese restaurant across the street, then stocked up on pretzels for snarky_the_owl. Snarky was impressed with the Shaws grocery store, because they stocked pretzel M&Ms. Took a nap; I hadn't slept the night before out of travel anxiety.
Kindle aside. When ebooks first came out, I thought they were a stupid idea. I have to officially announce that I was wrong. I bought a Kindle the day before this trip, it's lovely to have a choice of things to read in an easy to carry form, and I was told that you can also download fanfiction on them! No Harry Potter books available though. :(
Really like The Margate Resort. I have a quiet room with a view of the lake, with nice firm mattresses! A pwerful hot shower! Cute fish lodge lamps! An extra vellux blanket! And free wifi! The restaurant and bar aren't open yet (not tourist season proper), but there is the Chinese restaurant, a tavern, and a deli and a grocery store. And The Snarry Suite. Am hoping that sometime during the con some fandom friends with a car will want to investigate one of those *lobster warehouses* I spotted on the drive to the hotel, heh heh.
I wish I had done some research and arranged to stay longer here and gotten a car. There are some interesting tourist things: a Shaker Village, the oldest unaltered textile mill in the country (so Spinner's End), a gallery with rare prints, a witchy book shop...
