I wonder if I should make a resolution to try and finish up my backlog, which now goes back two generations since we're in a new generation and all... sigh.
Currently playing:
Assassin's Creed
I enjoyed Assassin's Creed III so much that it made me want to go back and play the earlier games. I was worried that the mechanics would feel uncomfortable and primitive compared to AC3, but it's actually not that bad. The stripped-down freerunning mechanics are actually better because Altair doesn't try to climb up every single god damn wall and fence and trellis and window and oh geez. The one thing I miss is that Altair can't swim so falling in the water means death. It's super lame. I also wish there were a better way to deal with the beggars and mad men.
Pocket Planes
It's by the makers of Tiny Tower, but I like it a lot better. Besides pretending I run my own airline, I am fascinated by the mechanics. A lot of Facebook and FtP games operate on the principles of time and resource management. It's like... it takes 30 minutes to finish task A and it pays 50 gold, and it takes one hour to finish task B and it pays 75 gold. If you're actively playing it, it makes sense to do task A and just do it again after a half hour, and in an hour you'll have made 100 gold. But if you're not going to be back within 30 minutes, then it makes sense to do task B and make the 75 gold. Pocket Planes is like that, but it adds the variable of distance-you could choose the task that takes an hour, but now your plane is an hour away from where it started, so maybe it's in your best interest to not pick the highest-paying job. You can also leave cargo and passengers at a non-destination airport, to wait for a pickup from a more convenient flight that will yield a higher payout. Okay, maybe I've dedicated way too many words to this one game, but I'm surprised at how complex it actually is when you think about it.
Pokémon X
And heehaw_tng has Y. I caved and bought the game, but I've fallen behind while I dedicate my train and couch time toward catching up on my reading list. It's a fun game, but I do agree that it feels a little too easy, and very much loaded with "fan service." My least favorite part of the game is the group of kids you're part of, who always seem to show up to steal all the glory or just be annoying at all the major plot points. I hate them so much.
Animal Crossing New Leaf
I stopped playing this as much once we got Pokémon, but with winter coming up and Christmas I'll probably pick it up again.
