An Apology

[Isabella clears her voice before tentatively speaking into the comm, her voice soft and dripping with grief and remorse. There is a pause; she's scrambling for the proper thing to say. But years of training and decorum have not prepared her for this.]

I... I would like to offer my most sincere apologies to Hannibal King, Brynhildr Dottir, Marco ( Read more... )

[She had been wondering whether or not Isabella would address her and the others who had been killed in her rage, and had waited for this opportunity to arise before speaking to her.]

Isabella, where are you?

[Her tone is cool and carefully neutral.]

[Isabella didn't miss that cool, neutral tone in Bryn's voice. Was Bryn considering her offer? Isabella wouldn't blame her if she was.]

In my room, 6450 on Deck 7.

[Bryn arrived five minutes later, knocked firmly on the door Isabella had indicated, then tucked her hands into the pockets of her shorts. It seemed best to keep them there because she had no idea what her gut reaction would be once she saw the vampire again.]

[Isabella moves to open the door, standing back, out of arms reach of Bryn, so that Bryn does not feel threatened. Her very body language screams of self-defeat, and her head bows to the shifter.]

Come in...

[She wouldn't blame Bryn if she didn't.]

Thanks.

[Bryn had no intention of having this discussion out in the hallways and entered without hesitation. Her resolve overwhelmed any sense of wariness she might feel, and Bryn did firmly believe that Isabella was not a danger to be around compared to some passenger.

Her own body language was surprisingly relaxed, considering all things. She didn't appear to be on the verge of attack, at least.]

You have some explaining to do, Isabella. I don't want to kick your ass, I want answers.

[Isabella shuts the door and settles onto her bed, legs tucked underneath her. Bryn seemed relaxed, which made Isabella feel a little bit better about meeting with the woman.]

I can give answers, but you must ask questions first...

[The nice thing was, Bryn knew exactly where she wanted to start.]

Is it true you turned Haine into a vampire? Against his will?

oh god not this question again... XD lamortdeshommes February 23 2010, 08:01:40 UTC
[Isabella bit her lip a moment before answering.]

Yes. He was dying... At the time, I did not know that death was not permanent aboard this ship. I thought I was saving his life...

[And she means it. She really did think she was saving him.]

[Bryn didn't want to linger on the answer. It was too late now to do anything about it, and Isabella sounded remorseful.]

I assume not telling me was his choice, not something he was compelled to keep quiet about?

It was his choice. I did not demand he keep anything from those he cares about. I would never...

[And she's incredibly grateful that you aren't lingering.]

[She shook her head with a sigh.]

I believe you, but I hope you won't be offended that I had hoped it was you that kept him from telling me, not him.

[It stung that Haine had kept such an important occurrence to himself.]

I already know why you...did what you did. At Sergei's. What I really want to talk about is that little speech you made when you first came on board.

[It was NOT just a little speech.]

My vow to protect the passengers from my Kind... Something I have failed miserably at.

[It might as well have been, considering Bryn agrees that Isabella did fail at.]

I understand mistakes happen. From what I can tell, Haine wasn't intentional, and I know that what happened in Sergei's...I don't blame you for these things. Shit happens, I know that.

[She paused, emphasizing this point carefully before continuing.]

Did you know what my brother's been up to since he got on board?

[Isabella ignores the fact that Bryn doesn't blame her. She really ought to be blamed, in her own personal opinion, but instead of saying anything, she merely cocks an eyebrow. She didn't even know Bryn had a brother, let alone that he was aboard the ship.]

No, I do not.

He made friends with a girl named Gertie. Mimmi's sister, as I understand it.

There was a vampire on board named Drusilla who apparently killed the girl. My brother is rather protective of her and as a result, Drusilla used that against him and pushed him into volunteering his own neck to keep Gertie safe.

[Bryn tilted her head at Isabella then, her face expressionless and neutral.]

Wasn't preventing things like that from happening part of what was included with your claim to protect us from other vampires?

I...

[Isabella didn't even knowabout Drusilla. Hell, she's lucky she even heard about Deacon.]

It was. I.. I am so sorry.

[Isabella's hands are shaking now. She's been fucking up left and right. If she were home, she'd be dead for this. Long dead. Jack would have tied her up and left her to greet the sun.]
