wowzerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs
tomorrow Intalik, Jamal and I road trip it to Buffalo to pick up SHANA!!!! shoot. I'm really excited to start our family. it's going to be great.
even Nasir (Nadim's bro) is going to be in toronto this year. CHA-OS IN THE HO-USE
I'm also really excited for Facing East to get started again. it really sucked that we had to put stuff on hold (atleast in Canada) because we got soooo many offers for festivals and shows. for world music, the summer festivals is where it's at. hopefully this summer we can convince people to stay and seeeeeeeeriously kick it. we need some new material though. even *I'm* getting tired of singing the same songs. anyone on here know swahili?
I started writing a song the other day with the Swahili phrasebook Terri gave me before I left. it goes like this:
Ja mtoto sikiliza neenee
mimi seema way way
amani inanja (or pamoja..I'm not sure)
wamani boondaya
translation
come child listen to what I say
hear the beat of the drum
it is the drum of unity
it is the drum of truth
...in so many words I'm pretty sure...and I have a feeling my grammar is totally messed. bah. I'll work on it and somehow make it good.
I could potentially write a song in Atesso (the village language) instead, but it doesn't lend itself to music as much as Swahili does.
