I was reading this magazine article today and I thought about you. Or at least that part of us that used to laugh about the prospect of going back to the civil war, but with unlimited rounds for an uzi.
It was a review of a book of interviews someone had conducted with people from NYC over the past ten years. The article writer was quoting one such interview. It went like this:
Interviewer: I used to live in this old Civil War hospital, but I had to move out. At night you could just hear the screams from the amputations.
Interviewee: [Sympathetic and softly, staring off at nothing] The whiskey amputations.
I laughed so hard, sitting there on the toilet.
