No, this isn't an illusion...I'm posting! :-) It's been a long time, or it feels like it anyway. Vacation in New Orleans was simply fabulous (I'll be posting pics to bore you all with too!) but once I got back we began the dreaded Home Improvement Project. The upstairs bathroom for the kids has been gutted completely, and we've got a new tub, new vanity with TWO sinks (Yays! Kids won't fight over whose turn it is!) and new medicine cabinets with mirrors. Linen closet is redone. Just need to put the new porcelain tile in and the toilet. I've painted it a cool looking light green, my favorite color, along with painting two other rooms in the house that really needed it. *whew* And if anyone wants a good painting tip I've got one for you-- don't ever flip the paint can upside down to shake it without making sure the lid's on tight first. Yeah. You can spill a BUNCH of paint that way. (read: I am a dolt) I at least was not standing on carpet at the time but the basement stairwell. Some spilled over the side down the cracks into the crawl space under the garage too, and coindidentally my hubby killed the most MONSTROUSLY large Wolf Spider I've ever seen in my life the very next day. I mean, this sucker was big. Like...BIG! HUGE! Silver dollar size. The body alone was like a quarter. He took the first swat from my hubby without even flinching. Took four or five whacks to kill it. And I know he was coming for me. I probably got paint down in his nest. Thank Eru hubby found him first...I knew it was bad when he opened the basement door and said "OH MY GOD!" LOL. Coincidence my ass. Now on to another completely random thought...how is it I never knew the mineral Peridot could come from meteorites?!? My son brought home a birthstone key from school and that's what it said! I've been wanting to get a Peridot ring because it's my second daughter's birthstone. I already have Opal and Amethyst for my other two children. But Peridot is FROM OUTER SPACE???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I want one right now!!!!!! That's awesome! /end geek mode.

I missed Mother's Day here, so happy belated to all you mommies out there. Was a special day here, went with my mother and mother-in-law to a benefit concert for Bittersweet Farms, which is a center here that assists adult Autistics. Before the concert they talked a bit about Autism (it's Autism Awareness week here) and what it's like to live with it. My boy is not autistic but there is a lot of overlap in symptoms. Difference is, there is a chance my son will someday outgrow SPD. You never outgrow Autism. CD, I thought of you a great deal that day. I have a lot of respect and love for people who care for children with developmental disorders, and I have faith that you and your son will be OK. Every day is a challenge, and it's daunting to think of the future, but you are strong enough to handle it. The woman from the center who was speaking said Autistic children were like stars...beautiful and unreachable. I almost cried. ♥

So lastly, I am planting my vegetable garden this weekend. Wish me luck! Last year we got tons of tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini but no peppers at all. *scratches head* This year we also have a giant pumpkin planted, and we're having a contest at work between my boss and I to see who can grow the biggest pumpkin. :0) We have a new addition to the back yard too...a robin made a nest on the vent that sticks out the side of the house from the oven exhaust, and it's got four baby birds in it now! I'm not quite sure what we're going to do when there are baby birds hopping around and the dogs want to go out in the backyard. Hmm. If I stick my head out the kids bathroom upstairs I can see into the nest...one of these days momma robin is probably going to swoop in and peck my eyes out, but I did manage to take a picture of the nest.

One more thing...ki_kiwigirl, I hope you are recovering well! *hugs*
