her impressions of Frankenstein, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, and an absolutely delicious photo of him. Yes, his mouth really is that gorgeous. :)
And today I rewatched, for the first time in probably thirty years,
The Wiz. I remember watching it in the theatre when I was eight, and being kind of freaked by the startling imagery, though I'd forgotten a lot of the specifics (except the taxis and a couple of other things). Watching it again now, I realize just how much it reflects that image of America I got as a kid through shows like Sesame Street and The Electric Company - that idea that the US was this harmonious multicultural society. In the Wiz you get a more nuanced vision - the taxis that drive away as soon as Dorothy and her friends approach, the reflections of African-American life, good and bad, in the various characters and situations encountered in Oz - but it's still got that great, hopeful message. And it's interesting that when I was trolling for footage on YouTube, I found
this fascinating Obama fanvid set to one of the great numbers from the movie. If you get a chance to rent it, give it a try. :)
