running home

so last thursday night i spent most of the time freaking out about my installation in the bathroom of the gallery for the group show. the 2 colors of white on the walls weren't matching, the drill bit i needed was nowhere to be found, and i was way past sanely functioning and into lylee stress mode. friday night the show was from 7-11, we were meeting at the gallery at 6 to clean up the space, relax and set up. at 6:30 we were all freezing outside waiting for izumi to come with the key, she shows up, but had forgotten the key..drama...we finally get into the gallery at 7:10, after turning people away while we finished setting up, cleaning, and putting labels up. some people were upset and made more drama, but then the gallery started filling up and the place was insanely packed for a solid 2 or 3 hours. it was crazy. the thing i love most about the webster art department is the insane ammount of support, when a person in the department has a show, the whole department goes. Apperances were made by my parents, my brother, aunt nancy and uncle bill (came in from west county to see it on a frday night!) uncle david, fritz and jenny, courtney, the murphy family, my godmother...it was crazy fun. my piece was really well recieved. i ended up titleing it
encroach
discarded limbs and remains of progress
and on the bathroom wall in brown paint painted the def. (encroach. verb 1. to advance beyond usual or proper limits. 2. to enter by gradual steps or by stealth into the posessions or rights of another.
i had done a test of this piece in the hallway/entrance way of the art building for a sculpture crit. a few weeks before and had taken what didn't work from that and changed it, and my sculpture prof., john, loved it and just raved about it. it was so wonderful to have that much good feedback, and know that people really "got" the piece.
i usually hate gallery openings with a passion, but it was a good time.
i have a sculpture finall tomoroow, which involves me making about 150 more flowers out of plastic grocery bags and staking them to the huge grassy quad....but come friday..i'm free of school and ready for some holiday fun...cookie baking anyone?
also got asked to be part of a student group for this amazing show tht will happen at wash u in the spring..about womens' health, and with an insane amount of well known artists, aparently they have been planning this show for 10 years or something silly.
so things are pretty face paced and stressfull around here, but hey thats what makes it fun right?
back to sewing flowers, and listening to girl bluegrass
love!
