(no subject)
as i write this the school 4th of july bbq got rained out so from down the hall horrible renditions of "house of the rising sun" and "blowing in the wind" are waifting in to the computer lab, like a bad mix of terry meredith and a wiedman music party...ah the joys. Two weeks ago we went to Ireland, and it was amazing- I don't have a drop of irish blood in me, yet i would move there in a heartbeat. the first two days we hung out in dublin, drank at bars and chilled with claire's friends from Loyola new orleans, it was a good time. then we took a train to county cork, and stayed with claire's 3rd cousin Gretta, who is 65 or so and the sweetest women. she took the 3 of us in to her house, made us tons of food took us to the Blarney stone, around the village, and to her son in laws family farm to watch 15 women spin and dye wool. It was amazing ,everyone was so friendly and the baily's and guiness super fresh.
then last weekend we went to amsterdam. that was the trip i was pumped for. but i realized amsterdam sucks. once you get over the inital coolness of sex and drugs, it's just a dirty city. We stayed in a dumpy hostel above a bar in the red light district, and later i was draged to a way overpriced sex show, and it all depressed me a ton. yeah, sex is great, but exploited in front of 200 nasty drunk tourists, ish just filth. anyway the vangogh museam was pretty amazing, and even had a little modern art section inside it, and that was fantastic. thats about it. Only a week of classes left, so now i have to prtend like i'm actually in school and start writing papers...but so it goes.
