System Update encouraged me to install Service Pack 3 to Windows XP last night, so I figured what the hell and hit OK. Within a half hour, my computer is toast from some crippling virus/malware or other. And all I did last night was install that and make dinner! So I have my work computer, and that's it right now. I have until December for my service plan at Best Buy, all they'll do is wipe the hard drive clean but hey that'll sure fix the issue. I just have to find a way to backup any pictures I want to keep, since almost everything else important is on my external hard drive or in my email.
