I'm back from Brazil.
Brazil has great graffiti and awesome people, but they ain't no great urbanists. I mean, who in their right mind paints buildings in pastel colours? Pastel blue, yellow, orange, pink, etc. Pastels ain't good colours for cities, unless you have a predominating, contrasting element that “cancels out" the ill-effects of baby-blue on the retina and the cityscape, otherwise it looks fucking ugly.
What the fuck were the Brazilian people thinking when they decided beige and pastel green were good colours for a neo-gothic cathedral?
Anyway, they also have some really cool, abandoned buildings that look like they were shipped directly from some WW II movie, all broken windows, graffiti everywhere and paintless, grey facades. Loved them.
The graffiti's quite simply gorgeous and I would go back to Brazil just to take more pictures of it. To paint it over would be a fucking crime against art, because it's genious. I think that's what I liked most about brazil, the graffiti.
Okay, I lost interest in this post, so I'll just leave it at that and go drink something fun.
