I took my Dad to the airport this morning, and then I went to read the paper and have a strawberry frappicino at Starbucks. The weather is getting really hot here now, and I'm finding it mentally distracting. Sure, I like to be outside and the sunshine is making me feel perky, but trying to concentrate on reading the newspaper and such heavy and depressing issues as immigration and abortion rights and is absolutely impossible when you're sweating directly under the lovely light of the sun.
What's this whole sun thing about? I live in the Pacific Northwest, for Pete's sake. It was 87 degrees yesterday. Such high tempatures already - it's only May! This is still, technically, spring! - might kill us here. We'll melt. Our brains will stop working. We might even start to behave like those crazy, sunfried Californians. God save me from such a fate!
After my Starbucks and Suduko moment I went to the club. I found out I forgot socks, but I did have my bathing suit, so I did 15 laps in the pool. Or 30 lengths of the pool. My shoulderblades are still complaining, but I loved being in the water. After my swim I took a shower, and to prove how weird things are around here, I had to turn the temp of the shower down to cold. While having this delightfully refreshing cold shower, the water started to get warm. Yes, it seemed I was running out of cold water. That's not supposed to happen. I turned that shower down even colder!
After my swim, I came home and I did some shopping in the market. I got some milk, a beautiful black and red scarf with a rose motif, and a big $20 boquet that's so beautiful - it's mainly deep blue irises and white tulips and some varient of white foxglove. It's blue and white and clean and fresh and blooming right in the middle of my living room. It's perfect. I'm very happy.
