2nd Fic: "Pent-Up Rage is Usually Compensating for Something"- Femm!Ed, Femm!Al, and Roy
3rd Fic: "In This Strange Country"-Mei and Xaio-Mei
4th Fic: "Those Moments in Life"- Roy
5th Fic: "An Impromptu Visit"- EdxWinry
Title: Obsession
Series: Manga/Brotherhood
Word Count: 318
Rating: PG (because I feel uncomfortable rating anything with Kimblee in it 'G')
Character: Kimblee
Summary: Kimblee's obsession, more or less.
Author's Notes: +This was wirtten for fma_fic_contest's prompt, "Second-Person POV"+
I tried to capture the essence of Kimblee here. I hope I did.
You don’t know when it started, this obsession.
Perhaps it was all those years in that blasted home. You learned ways to escape, though. Away from those wretched people. They didn’t understand. So maybe it was learned before it became a fascination, and then more. You could end the life of a small bird, or a rabbit, in mere seconds. It was incredible.
Needless to say, you left as soon as possible to fully satisfy your passion. The best place to go? The military.
By age 20, you were a state alchemist. People at the academy were talking about you all the time. “He’s a genius,” people would whisper. You liked this. Recognition was always a good thing. Your life was good. Even those people began to appreciate and understand you more. Not that you cared at this point.
As time moves forward, conflicts are created. The Ishballan Massacre was more than you could ever ask for. You were given orders to do what you loved to do. And you did love it. You still do. The sound, the ashy smell, the fear it creates. So pleasant.
The Ishballans ran like ants, small and insignificant, under you. And they were beneath you, just like the small animals you killed years ago. You were superior to them, to everyone, really. All because of this thing you loved. But it was no longer just an obsession. It was power.
You wanted more. More than the military was offering. They had given you a vital tool that could enhance your power. But they made a fatal mistake: They had strongly underestimated your power and dedication. The fools. You reacted naturally; you did what you loved.
Hell, even the time you served for it was worth it. You got out, anyway.
And now you’ve been given more orders to do what you love to do. Life is good again.
Let the games begin.
Title: Pent-Up Rage is Usually Compensating for Something
Series: General
Word count: 353
Rating: PG, for language (unless the F-bomb is more PG-13?)
Characters: Femm!Ed (El), Femm!Al (Ally), and Roy
Summary: Takes place about a year before the series officially starts, El is 14, Ally is 13. El is angry with the colonel and life in general (as usual).
Author's Notes: +This was written for fma_fic_contest's prompt, "Gender-Switch"+
I wasn't planning to do this prompt, but the plot-bunny came up and bit me during study hall today, so... Also, the idea for the fic was slightly inspired by Qianying, of Deviantart.
The girl, Roy thought, was certanintly energetic. She was ranting now about how she needed more grant money and how the hell would they get their bodies back when all she and her sister did was his “dirty work” and would he fuckin’ STOP SMIRKING.
“Calm down,” he drawled, which, of course, only set her off again. Roy leaned back in his office chair and checked his state pocket watch. This could take a while.
“…when all you are is a son-of-a-bitch, fucking dumb-ass colonel with an ego the size of Central!”
She certaintly had a mouth on her. Christ, where did kids pick up on language like that these days? But, then again, he supposed she wasn't just any ordinary kid.
“El.” Her younger sister, who had withheld from saying anything until now, finally interrupted after a good 10 minutes.
“What?” El said, irritated, turning to face her younger sister, Ally.
“Give it a rest. Have you ever considered just asking for something nicely?” She was being serious, but asked in a joking sort of manner.
“Yeah, alright, alright,” El agreed. She turned back to Roy and asked, ever-so-politely, “Do you have any bright ideas on how to help us, Colonel Dumb-Ass?”
Ally sighed so loudly that it echoed from the inside of her armor.
Roy couldn’t take it anymore. He just had to.
“You know, El,” he started. “I think all this pent-up rage is just your way of compensating.”
“Huh? What d’ya mean?” Brilliant. She was taking the bait.
He leaned forward, smiling deviously. “All your anger. It’s compensation for your small breast size,” he said sweetly.
There was a half-second of silence. Ally sighed again. The colonel was really no better than her sister.
And, predictably:
“PERVERT! YOU FUCKING PERVERT!” El screamed. “Who’re you calling a girl with boobs so small she can’t even use her sex appeal to get a man to buy her dinner?!”
And she was off. Roy leaned back and closed his eyes, rubbing his temples. It would be an even longer rant now- not good for his oncoming headache- but it was worth it.
Title: In This Strange Country
Series: Manga
Characters: Mei, Xiao-mei
Rating: Definite "G"
Word Count: 250 (man, it was hard cutting this thing down)
Summary: Mei is on her way to Central, and encounters a cow for the first time.
Author's Notes: +This was written for fma_fic_contest's prompt, "Cow"+
It took me a while to think of the idea, but I like it. I don't think I was able to fully express the feeling I intended for the story in just 250 words though, so I may re-write it later if I have the time.
Mei had spent the past couple of nights in a large red house (what strange structures these Amestrians had!) in the middle of a field. There was an even bigger house (although that one was white) a bit further away. That was the one the family lived in. Mei could tell because she had seen the two children, who played constantly in the big field, go in it at night.
She had considered playing with them, but had eventually decided against it. She wasn’t sure how happy their parents would be if they found out she had been staying in their second house and nabbing food from their gardens without their permission. She would only be there another day or so, she reasoned, so she could resist playing with the children.
But the animals, she could not resist. There were some she recognized, like the chickens, but there were others that she didn’t, like the ones that were the same color as Xiao-mei, albeit they were considerably larger than her stunted panda.
Last night she had ventured out to where they grazed, eager to touch one. She wondered if they felt the same as Xiao-mei. But when she reached out her hand, the creature had let out a startling noise that sounded like a groan. Mei was terrified she had hurt it, but was unsure of what to do. She ended up bolting the scene, heart beating fast.
She wasn’t sure how long she would last in this strange country.
Title: Those Moments in Life
Series: Manga (Chapter 100 spoilers)
Rating: PG, I guess
Word Count: 110
Summary: Life is unfair; Roy knows this.
Author's Notes: A little drabble I wrote a few days after reading Chapter 100.
Life is unfair.
It was unfair when his parents had died when he was so young.
It was unfair when he was made into a human weapon, when all he had wanted to do with his skill was change his country for the better.
It was unfair when his best friend had survived a battlefield, yet had been murdered in the end anyway, leaving behind a wife and child.
It was unfair when his nicotine-addicted second lieutenant could no longer feel his legs, let alone walk.
Life is unfair; Roy knows this.
So why was he really all that shocked when the enemy soldiers’ sword sliced his most loyal subordinates’ neck?
Title: An Impromptu Visit
Series: Any
Rating: PG
Word Count: 500
Summary: Ed and Al drop by for a surprise visit to Winry, but Winry has a surprise of her own to Ed.
Author's Notes: +This was written for fma_fic_contest's prompt, "Drill"+
This wasn't the first thing I thought of, but it was overall the best idea. I'm not sure if I was fully able to execute it well enough, though. Ah, well. Enjoy anyway!
“Hurry up, woman!” Ed barked. “Me and Al need to get back to Central!”
Winry let out an indignant huff. Just who the hell did he think he was? She was certainly not in the mood for this, especially not after he had barged in just a few minutes ago with his brother and a scratched-up, dysfunctional arm. If she wasn’t so peeved, she would be worried. But she just didn’t feel like being concerned for these brothers who she was constantly fretting over, always wondering whether their last visit would be her last time ever seeing them, talking with them, laughing with them…
“Hey! Are you listening? I said I was sorry, you don’t have to look so depressed...” Ed’s metal arm waved in front of her face.
She snapped back to the situation at hand. Just because she had drifted off for a contemplative moment didn’t mean she wasn’t still angry at the braided boy in front of her.
“Just thinking of how the hell I’m going to repair it this time,” she replied in the most annoyed tone she could muster. Ed gave her a sheepish, guilty look.
Winry abruptly turned to her worktable, searching for a wrench she could chuck at Ed to get those stupid gold eyes of his to stop looking so guilty. Then she wouldn’t have to feel so guilty for scolding him, even if he did deserve it. But instead of a wrench, she found something better. Much better.
She glanced over her shoulder. Ed had sat down and was lounging in a chair.
“Oh, Ed~!” She called sweetly, hiding the object behind her back.
“What…?” Ed began to fidget nervously.
“Why don’t you take off your shirt?”
"Right..." She noticed his cheeks turned slightly pink before he pulled off the black tank top he usually wore when visiting Rush Valley. Winry had to mentally force her gaze from his finely-featured abs. No admiring them today, she told herself sternly. She really wanted to surprise him a little, maybe even scare him; whatever it took to get him to think twice before going headlong into some dangerous battle again.
“Why are you staring at me like- what the fuck is that?” Ed’s eyes widened in dread as Winry walked towards him, brandishing a bulky metal apparatus.
“What’s that for? What is it?” he demanded.
“It’s called an electric screwdriver,” Winry said brightly. “The latest in Rush Valley technology! It was developed by an engineer named-”
“I don’t care who the fuck developed it! You are not using that thing on me,” Ed interrupted.
“But Edddd…I just bought it yesterday and I haven’t gotten the chance to use it yet! All it does is drill the screw into the desired surface in a quick, efficient manner!”
“Alright, alright…” Ed muttered. “If it really is going to be quicker…”
Winry smiled, happy that she would be able to use her new toy, and triumphant to have been the one to worry him this time.
