Two British actors are heading into space, as Noel Clarke and Benedict Cumberbatch are cast in JJ Abrams’ new Star Trek film…

First up, Noel Clarke is adding to his busy schedule by signing up for a role in the film. Clarke, who will be appearing on screen this year in three films that he’s written or co-written himself (The Knot, Storage 24 and Fast Girls), has signed up to play a family man in the movie, one with a wife and daughter. Where he fits in beyond that remains to be seen.

TrekMovie has learned Benedict Cumberbatch, star of the hit BBC series Sherlock, has been tapped to play a major role in the 2013 Star Trek sequel.Following the first posting of this article Variety confirmed the TrekMovie report and also reported that Cumberbatch will be playing the villain.

JJ Abrams and his team originally were considering Benicio Del Toro for the role of the villain, but talks broke down about a month ago. Following that the team began looking at other actors including Edgar Ramirez. A source tells TrekMovie that Cumberbatch "blew them all away" with his audition.

H8RS GONNA H8, BUT I'M FUCKING ECSTATIC FOR BOTH OF THESE PICKS. MY THREE DAYS OFF WORK JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT BETTER.
