The Eagle Rec Post

So, these are my current recs for The Eagle. Those of you who've been in the fandom for some time now will see nothing new here. For those of you who are wanting to dabble into our wonderful, bromatic world - these will be fresh and shiny and new for you! Enjoy!

Improving the Silence, by seascribe
"What if Esca did not speak Latin?"
  • This is a movie-era au where, as the summary implies, Esca doesn't speak Latin. The tentative growth between Marcus and Esca in this is shockingly beautiful and totally enrapturing.
wrong way to ragnarök, by scribblesinsand
The Eagle/Thor fusion where Esca is more than a little mad - and he hits Marcus with his car.
  • Pretty sure I laughed until my stomach hurt. This writer is brilliant, witty, and quick. Once you begin reading this, you won't be able to stop until you've seen it to the end.
never meant you harm, by augustbird
Marcus thought he knew who Esca was. A fusion of The Eagle and Jumper with elements from GI Joe.
  • This is heartbreakingly written. You feel for both Marcus and Esca like a dagger to the side. You want them both to prevail in their endeavours, in their lives, but you just don't know how they ever could. This is an immensely satisfying read, and so creative.
Bottoming Out and it's sequel, One Percenters, by frackin_sweet
Marcus Aquila is a former undercover cop, who ends up working in law enforcement again. Esca McCunoval is a motocross rider with a past that comes back to haunt both him and Marcus, direly affecting their blossoming relationship.
  • This is the blueprint for how to write an outstanding, quality AU. Esca and Marcus are both beautiful and flawed, angry at the world and with themselves. The author manages to capture, for me, the essence of Esca and Marcus' personalities in this fic. Highlighted are Marcus' bravery, selflessness, temper, and strength - Esca's resourcefulness, quick wit, self-preservation, and passion. I recommend anything by this author.
Fighter, by planejane
Marcus Aquila is an undercover Metropolitan police officer. His assignment is to infiltrate a slave-trafficking organisation which trades in men, bought and sold to fight in cages, sometimes to the death. When he makes the impulsive decision to intervene during a 'kill fight' involving a fierce young fighter called Esca, Marcus inadvertently finds himself the owner of his very own slave. Now Marcus has to find a way to complete his assignment, as well as gaining Esca's trust, without blowing his cover. The question is, can he do it before the secrets and lies catch up with him, and Marcus loses everything?
  • This fic didn't tug at my heartstrings, it tore at them, shredded them, and left them on the floor. And then, magically, all pieces were knitted back together. This author writes with such detail, such care for her characterisations, that you feel like you're reading about real people. That is a true gift. This fic is a journey and a half, I tell you.
Perfectly Good At It, by iscaris
One of Esca's friends gets him a male stripper as a joke on his birthday. You can guess who the stripper is.
  • Um, this manages to be both hilarious and hot at the same time. And, if I'm being honest, since the first time I read this, I haven't been able to listen to this Rihanna song without thinking of this fic and smiling.
Strip For Me, by lallyloo
When Marcus's co-worker buys him a lap dance, Marcus doesn't expect to fall for the dancer...
  • This is sexy as hell. I mean, really sexy. Marcus is sweet and tenacious, Esca is distrustful and dominant. Ugh, just read it.
Farmall Frolic, by riventhorn
American AU set in the 1930s. Esca, Marcus, a tractor, and sex!
  • So no one probably knows this, but fics set in the 20's and 30's literally have me salivating. No, it doesn't even have to have porn - just the fact of when it is set does it for me. Hnng. So yeah, this is glorious. You can feel the sexy grit of this fic.
Five Times Esca Hit Marcus in the Face, by sineala
Even if you'd choose to do the same thing again, it makes all the difference in the world to be able to have the choice.
  • ...Sometimes I don't know how to explain why I love a fic so much. I feel like the title of this should blatantly suck you in. But if you must know, this author is a freaking queen of Eagle fic, and this is just another foray into her poetic, empathetic, intelligent writing.

That's all for now, even though I could go on and on. Keep in mind that if I rec one fic from an author, it means that I love basically everything that author writes. So please be sure to scour their Masterlists, and comment the hell out of them!
