ACT 1 OF 3.
Girl: *is in cage*
Merlin: !
Gaius: *frowns*
Later:
Girl: *is in cage*
Merlin: MAGIC!
Girl is no longer in cage.
Girl: Why did you rescue me?
Merlin: You being in that cage... it could have been me! Now just wait here in this dungeon. I'll come back tomorrow.
Girl: *is in dungeon*
Next morning:
Girl: *is in dungeon*
Merlin: Have some food!
Merlin: *leaves*
Later:
Girl: *is in dungeon*
Merlin: Have some food! I like you!
Girl: ... I think we need to talk about what's going on here.
Merlin: You don't need to explain. I UNDERSTAND.
Girl: No, srsly, there's things we need to talk about - there's this thing where I'm a m-
Merlin: It's OK. I accept you!
Girl: *is won over and kisses him*
Merlin: I'm going to take care of you FOREVER.
Girl: *is in dungeon*
ACT 2 OF 3
A quiet street at night:
Random soon-to-be casualties: chilly night, wot wot?
Camera: *zooms over to them and NOMS*
Casualties: I say, ahh!
Girl is not in dungeon!!!
Gaius and Arthur and Uther look at the bodies of the Casualties.
Uther: What do you think it is, Gaius?
Gaius: ...
Uther: oh, come on, I know you like doing the exposition. Are you sure? All right, I'll say it. It's a MAGICAL CREATURE.
Girl: *is in dungeon*
Merlin: I'm starting to think we should get you out of the dungeon so we can be free and equals together!
Girl: *is relieved*
Girl: Merlin, there's something you definitely need to know about me. People are terrified of me. I'm CURSED.
Merlin: Being different isn't a curse!!
(Later: Girl: NOMS MORE CASUALTIES)
ACT 3:
Near-climax:
Merlin: OK, so, we'll leave tonight?
Girl: Well, I will. Thanks for all your help. :-)
Merlin: See you tonight!
Girl: Goodbye, Merlin.
Climax of episode:
Gaius: Merlin, your girlfriend is a kickass cat monster doomed to NOM CASUALTIES. She has no choice.
Merlin: SHE'S NOT THE KICKASS CAT MONSTER!
Girl turns into THE KICKASS GIANT CAT MONSTER.
Jessica: WICKED!!!
Arthur: *stabs*
Cat Monster: RARR!
Cat Monster: *doesn't want to hurt anyone per se, but is damn sure going to kick some ass after being hunted and shut in a cage and hidden in a dungeon and hunted again and stabbed*
Merlin: *causes a diversion*
KICKASS GIANT CAT MONSTER turns back into Girl.
Girl: *has been mortally wounded*
Girl: thanks, Merlin, this was great. :-)
Merlin: *sobs*
Actually I had a lot of love for this episode. For one thing, we finally had an episode where Merlin is instantly able to share his delighted, wonder-loving side of himself with someone who might be appreciative. He uses his magic in what he sees as unproblematic directions: another person's rescuing, delighting, and care. Two of these three are exactly what Merlin does for Arthur on a daily and weekly basis - and I don't think it's an interesting coincidence that instead of say, buying food or clothing, Merlin steals it directly from Arthur and Morgana (arguably, the people he most respects).
