So last night Emily, Donnie, and I were watching Back to the Future when the lights went out. And then the heaters started cooling down. And then by the morning it was pretty cold. And then tonight it was *freezing*. It was -30 or something ridiculous like that with windchill in my neighborhood last night, and the old houses just can't insulate against that kind of cold, so most people moved out to stay with their friends. And so have Emily and I and the kitties.
Now I have bummed a place on the couch of the epic
hipsunderhands , who has power and sushi and lives on the way to my work AND, as it turns out, has crime videos! Umm, I mean - crime SHOW episodes. Not episodes of her committing crimes, though that would make for interesting watching too.
So a huge thanks to
hipsunderhands and her stalwart sister!!
I will have photos and more thoughtful thoughts about the past 24h later, but one of the awesome things was walking down Roncesvalles and seeing a couple of shops with home-made 'Open' signs despite the outage, and seeing signs posted up saying 'got no heat? Come to HPBC at ____ and Roncesvalles'. People were really friendly, and I spent far more time just hanging out with my roommate Donnie than I ever had before. Good and cold times.
