I took the lad. He's been so pumped about this concert since I bought tix back in november. I've been getting countdowns for the past couple weeks. Only 4 more days miss lala. Huh? oh, yeah.
ANYway, Gnarls Barkley opened and bless his heart the crowd was a bit sluggish when they took the stage. He expressed his frustration a couple times to the crowd. They had a string section of scantily clad girls. The cello player was quite popular with the crowd. I enjoyed their set and they weren't a bad opener, it's just, they were an opener.
The couple next to the lad asked him how old he was and the girl said 'man! you're so lucky, when I was 14 my mom took me to the Backstreet Boys! ' The guy told the lad he'd never forget tonight and the show would be lifechanging. Well, the lad already has a pretty good concert resume, he saw Pearl Jam at 12, System of a Down at 13, and now the Peppers.
As for the band...the first thing the Lad said was 'Oh my god, what the heck is Flea wearing?!'. It looked like a bright yellow soccer outfit including black knee socks with a ring of bright yellow at the top. He even wore a yellow head band. Turns out it was a Lakers outfit. Yellow with pinstripes. The top was a button shirt with the lakers logo on back. Interesting. John Fruschiante looked like he'd just stepped out of a cabin in the woods, he had short hair and a week's worth of facial hair or so. Blue plaid flannel shirt and jeans. The drummer (don't know his name) looked like he'd just come from a beach volleyball game with his tshirt with the sleeves cut off and his head band. Anthony Keidis looked like his usual self, cropped black pants, white tshirt and pinstriped suitvest. He had a gazillion wristbands on too. He's quite quirky on stage! LOL.
It's the third time I've seen them, and they were great. They had some really good jams and closed out the night with a kickass jam b/w Flea and Fruschiante...the drummer jumped in as well. They called a couple audibles throughout the night and Fruschiante sang a BeeGees tune from way back, shadow dancin? I think. I think I was the only person in the arena that actually knew that song. The Lad had a blast and sang at the top of his lungs. He knew all but two songs he said. I felt like the night was a little early, but they played nearly 2 hrs.
