When Prince Kazunari woke up the next morning his husband wasn’t in bed anymore. He looked drowsy around to make sure of that before he stood up. Feeling awkward in this new place, he waited a little as if to make sure nobody was coming to nose around his husband belongings. Too much clothes, the prince thought, and jewelry. His own ones were already guarded in the big armoire and in a flash he remembered the letter. He hastily searched for it in his yellow box, a present from his father on his last birthday.

He didn’t know where to go or what to do, but in that moment two servants appeared and took him to the room next door, where a bath was already ready for him. When they helped him get dressed again as the day before, he wondered if that was a custom he would have to follow from then on. He considered himself able to do those things for himself and he started to resent that he was being treated as some kind of doll.

They lead him to a private dinner room, still a little too big to be just a normal one. King Matsumoto, Prince Masaki and his wife Beatrice were already there, apparently waiting for him.

“Prince Kazunari, good morning” The King saluted him with a big smile

“Your majesty, good morning. Prince Masaki, Princess Beatriz” he bowed to them all.

“Oh, prince you don’t have to be that formal around us, we’re family now” the king took him by the shoulders “you can call me father as you’re my son too now”

Nino doubted he could ever do that, the longing for his own father still burning strong. The King sensed his discomfort and added “Maybe it’s too soon, what about father Matsumoto, does that sounds good?”

Kazunari gave a small nod and the King laughed. The prince took his seat as they indicated him, but still no sign of his husband there.

“Jun had to leave early, a message came this at sunrise and apparently it was urgent for him” Masaki explained to him even if he didn’t ask “So, how was last night?” he asked with a playful smirk on his face.

“Masa!” his wife slapped his husband’s hand “Sorry Prince Kazunari, my husband always had a problem with boundaries” she reprehended the Crown Prince with threatening eyes, but it was obvious that there was love also there. No wonder Prince Masaki continued still grinning.

After that, they ate in a lighter mood, Kazunari responding diverse questions about Kaztell. The Crown Prince and his wife, who now insisted that he calls her Becky, were really sincere, kind people and the young husband felt already attached to them.

King Matsumoto stayed almost quiet but with a soft smile that showed he was enjoying seeing Kazunari more relax around the royal family. When it was over, the King was the first to stand up to leave and take care of the kingdom matters.

Before he step out of the door Prince Kazunari approached him.

“Your majesty… I mean Father Matsumoto… well, I was wondering if it was necessary to have that many servants in my disposition… I mean, I appreciate it and all but it’s just that I’m not use to… ” he said a little ashamed and fearing that he was overstepping some kind of tradition. He hoped no.

“Ah, I see… you know, I was wondering about that too…” The King responded, a glint of amusement on his eyes.

Kazunari tilted his head not understanding the meaning

“Well, If you don’t feel comfortable… I think you would have to talk to your husband, after all it was at his orders that everything has been done” and just like that the King left him speechless.

Kazunari stood there freeze in his spot, not knowing what to think at all. Apparently Prince Jun had been taking care of every detail regarding his stay there, but why would he do that?...  And where was he this morning?

The day passed quickly as Princess Becky took him for a tour through the palace, showing him his favorite places, informing him about what happens in court and who to trust, but what Kazunari found more surprising was when she told her love story with Prince Masaki.

“Masaki just to go to the villages often to be around his people, you know, well both of they do that. Just happens that one day, it was only Masaki and he was feeling kind of hungry, as always, so he entered my father’s dining where I helped. I think it was love at first sigh for both of us” she said giggling with a soft blush.

“Wait… are you telling me… you’re a commoner?” the prince asked gaping.

“Yep!” Becky replied amused at Kazunari’s expression

“And you married just… just like that?”

“Of course not silly” she laughed “there were some obstacles at first, especially within the court; let me tell you there are some nasty little things there, but it’s impossible to go against the King”

“He-he was okay with it?”

“Not at the beginning, no. You should know he’s very protective of his sons, he loved his queen very much and he never desired to take another woman to fill his place. He always said she was his only true love and his sons are the most beautiful gift she could had ever give him… But when he saw how much Masaki was in love and he called me and confirmed that I also loved him… there was a royal wedding”

Kazunari had trouble believing all that. Of course he saw the King’s love for his sons but to accept a simple commoner as the next queen, he just didn’t fit the image. The prince always took pride that his father, King Ninomiya, would be the only king that could ever do that for his sons, but apparently King Matsumoto was also a very loving father. But a doubt came running to his head: if the king loves Prince Jun that much, why would he force him to get marry to a stranger.

“But enough of me” Princess Becky broke his train of thoughts “tell me how is Jun treating you?”

“Oh-ah- well, we barely been together at all” Kazunari remembered that it was late afternoon and still no sign of his husband, somehow he felt left out.

“Umm…he’s like that… a little shy, but he’s a good man. I’m glad he choose you, you’re a delight to talk to, I feel I have a new brother” Becky looked very happy

“He didn’t choose me, remember. It was all planned” the prince’s bitterness came back at being remembered of his forced marriage

“Oh, I see…” her smile disappeared and Kazunari felt guilty for doing that “…but whatever was that brought you together it doesn’t matter, what matters is what you do from now on, right?” She added in a hopeful tone

The prince couldn’t reply on that, he just settled on assent even if he wasn’t convinced himself. From now on, he thought. The future was still undecided for him, his bonds to his past life too strong to let go. He couldn’t. He didn’t want to.

At dinner, his husband still didn’t make an appearance. He didn’t ask for him even if he was curious. Again, servants were there again during his bath and to get him ready to bed; he couldn’t wait to have more freedom, as much as he could being practically locked in that place.

After reading again Sho’s letter and kissing it folded, he laid in the king side bed thinking in all the information he got that day. Prince Jun’s life resembled so much from his own, having a happily married brother, being loved by his father but still force to marriage. The sympathy he felt the first night he accepted the engagement, lying in his bed with Satoshi came back to him with much force. However, there were some loose ends to their story. What King Matsumoto had said, what Princess Becky had not said, there was just something he was missing and he couldn’t put his finger on it.

When he heard steps coming closer, he quickly pretended to be sleep. His husband was back and he heard him go for a bath and returned to bed, at any moment acknowledging his presence at all.  When the lights were turned off, he felt him lie next to him; somehow he liked the warmness that irradiated from his body. As he was stopping to pretend and actually falling to sleep a movement got him in surprise.

Prince Jun had leaned closer and softly pet his hair, he didn’t see the smile but he could feel it “My sweet Kazu, how was your day?” the prince started talking in a whisper “are you happy here?... I really hope you are. Sorry I couldn’t be here, I missed you so much my love but I have to get it ready for you” his husband put his hand over his waist as if holding him toward him but really not doing so “Good night my sweet Kazu… I love you” and with that Prince Jun closed his eyes and Prince Kazunari felt like screaming in shock.

What is going on?!  The young Prince was more lost than when he got here. Every conception of now being wanted and live within a cold family was falling apart just in one day. But the last sentence was just too much for his brain. The prince loves him… his husband loves him… how did that happened? When? What was he missing?

He didn’t move, nor that could he even if he wanted to. His head started hurting so much he had to open his eyes to get a better hold of himself. What he first saw was his husband face close to him, he looked really tired but happy none the less; expression soft and relaxed that compelled him to touch the handsome face as if by doing so he will get some answers. He restrained to act on it fearing what he could learn, but decided to get to the true on his own, even if he has cheat people to get what he wants. He closed his eyes again, a plan already playing in his mind.
