I'm posting the rest of the dance set to Flickr right now.  I'm doing it as we prepare to leave, so the photos may not get all uploaded and they may not all get descriptions - but they are up on my Flickr stream ( Read more... )

Much SHINY!Your shopping powers are strong. You have obtained powerful shiny, this is good in the eyes of the the shopping gods.

You make me want to teleport to India to go shopping. I don't have time to do an India trip right now, but I so want to go shopping! Particularly the pictures of sari shopping. I really want to spend an afternoon looking at saris, piles and piles of saris (and saying NO PINK! of course)

Its funny reading your stories of traveling. I realize how much my Indian in-laws protect me when I am there. I am absolutely, positively not allowed to go anywhere on my own. The sister-in-law must not be allowed to be harmed! In most instances, the risk is quite low, but no risk will be tolerated. On my last trip I got to walk alone back to the tailors while Dave and Lalitha finished up in the leather coat store. This required five minutes of discussion. It was about 200 yards in a very nice shopping area.

Of course, the one time I did go off on my own at a historical site (everybody else was tired and bored by then) I get bothered by two guys.

I'm of two minds, myself, on how I feel about the freedom. I like that they treat me as a grownup. And they seem to give me the space to decide if I can handle something. If I am worried, they help me.

But I was more taken care of 10 years back when I stayed with my college friend. As you describe - I pretty much didn't go places alone.

I guess I'm mostly glad to be learning. Pushy shop keepers, cab drivers hassling me at the airport, and grabbiness in general no longer freaks me out. I've learned a decent "no I'm not having that" expression that seems to work. So the learning is good... even if it's frustrating.
