Tired but Triumphant

Woah.  Yet again, after much frustration, everything falls into my lap unexpectedly.

Managed to successfully mail cloth covered package.  It was around $120 US.  OUCH.  That's pretty expensive, to me, for domestic shipping, but not necessarily for international, and it was pretty heavy.  The purpose of the mail was to mail heavy stuff home to avoid ( Read more... )

Certainly! When I get the package at home, we can weigh it - too, so we can give a real accounting of it. It was "pretty heavy, but carryable" which puts it somewhere in the 30-40 lb range given my Glamazonian nature.

And I'd gladly detail the items (when I get it) to give a sense of exactly how much stuff fits in a package of that size.

Admittedly, I'd like to think that I ended up with the upper end of shipping - I'm an ignorant consumer, doing this the first and only time, and I wanted a method that was easy to access at both ends.

I presume that there are some cheaper venues for bulk shipping - not cheap, but cheaper. For example, I know that we get bulk post cards printed in FL and shipped to us for the Babydolls. We pick them up at an obscure location in Logan, but it's much cheaper... I assume there might be similar cheap channels if its in your best interest as an importer to spend the time.

Not that it will ever be *cheap* - as a re-enactor shopping at a re-enactor specific shop, you should be expecting to pay a bit more - you are paying for the time and self-education of the person selling the goods. You could do this yourself - I often do - learn what's right, and shop independently - but you should expect to pay more to get it from someone who's done the hunting and shlepping for you...
